DEFINITION
Gonorrhoeae (GO)
is sexually transmitted disease caused by
Neisseriae gonorrhoeae (N.gonorhoeae)
ETIOLOGY
Neisseriae gonorrhoeae
a Gram negative diplococcus

EPIDEMIOLOGY
Reported cases GO more men 37 higher in
African-Americans
Prevalence of infection in men : 20% 60
80% (4 exposures)
Urethral GO in men 26%
PATHOLOGY
Mucous membrane lined by columnas or
cuboidal, noncornified epithelial cells
susceptible to gonococcal infections
The initial event in gonococcal infection
adherence of N.gonorhoeae to mucosal cells
Progressive mucosa cell damage
accompanied by submucosal microabscess
formation & exudation of purulent material
into the lumen of the infected organ

CLINICAL MANIFESTATION COMPLICATION
Local complication in men :
Tisonitis
Paraurethritis
Littritis
Cowperitis
Acute anterior urethritis manifestation of
gonococcal infection
Incubation 1 14 days or even longer
Symptoms :
Urethral discharge or dysuria.
Sant & mucoid or mucopurulent in
appearance
Urethral exudate purulent
Edema & erythema urethral meatus
TREATMENT Ascendens infection :
Prostatitis
Vesiculitis
Feniculitis
Epididimitis
Infertilitis

Penicillins G procaine 4.8 million unit + 1 gr
probenecid
Ampicillin 3.5 gr + 1 gr probenecid
Amoxycillin 3 gr + 1 gr probenecid
Cephalosporin :
Cefriaxone 250 mg i.m
Cefoperazone 0.5 1 grm i.m
Spectinomycin 2 gr i.m
Kanamycin 2 gr i.m
Thiamphenicol 3.4 gr oral
Quinolone :
Ofloxacin 400 mg
Ciprofloxacin 250 500 mg
Norfloxacin 800 mg
