urge for working toward the benefits of all the people of Burma

No. 7/2009 (ABMA+88+ABFSU)

Date: November 19, 2009

1. As of the letter by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to Sr. Gen Than Shwe dated on November 11, 2009
and the NLD's recent statement, it is learnt that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the NLD have a strong
political will to work for national reconciliation and are willing to cooperate with the State Peace and
Development Council (SPDC) in working together for the benefit of the country. In this regard, we
see that her requests for necessary arrangements to have a meeting with members of the NLD
Central Executive Committee and a meeting with Sr. Gen Than Shwe are reasonable, meaningful
and constructive.

2. US President Barack Obama during his tour to Asia said "We support Burma that is unified,
peaceful, prosperous, and democratic. And as Burma moves in that direction, a better relationship
with the United States is possible." It is thus obvious that, in order to have the sanctions on Burma
lifted, the responsibility rests mainly on the SPDC.

3. We urge Sr. Gen Than Shwe to move towards a positive change in the benefit of the country and
of all the people as the calls by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and US President Obama representing the
people of Burma and international community for cooperation through constructive approaches
towards change. We would like to suggest that by doing so, it will be beneficial not only to the
country and the people, but also for the dignity of the armed forces (Tatmadaw) and thus, Sr. Gen
Than Shwe should take this opportunity.

4. We shall continue to work together with all democratic forces to accomplish the realization of
Shwe-Gone-Taing Declaration since we believe that it is a pragmatic and dignified political guidance
for the people. Likewise, we urge the NLD to firmly stand with its Shwe-Gone-Taing Declaration and
work together with the people, and not to overlook the will of the people and their trust given at the
1990 Elections.
