Privatization of Indian Railways

The Indian Railways has the largest network of railways and is the largest employer in India (13 lakh
employees) and is the 6th largest employer in the world. Although it has a network of railways From
Kashmir to Kanyakumari; IR lacks proper infrastructure, facilities, safety measures, punctuality and
overall customer satisfaction.
Privatization will be a good idea considering what it can do to improve the overall user experience.
Just like we have excellent services from sites like redbus; the railway portal will have excellent
services and customer friendly access. There will definitely be less corruption and it will not be a
centralized system for decision making. The greatest benefit will be the zero influence of the political
and government regulations. It will lead to a unified and diversified railway budget across regions of
India. The latest technology for better user experience will be involved and also better safety and
security measures will be taken. It will eventually lead to Efficient Consumer Grievance Redressed
Cell. There will be talent based recruitment and performance based incentives and all the deserving
candidates will be ensured their rightful job, improving the quality of service and maintenance.
Trains will finally arrive on time; speedy trains will be introduced and the quality of food will be
improved to a great extent without the involvement of brokerage firms. Also, more rail routes will
be introduced improving connectivity. There will be a better disintegration of different department,
like food, safety, customs etc. Also, by customizing the service different classes of people can avail
the service as per their preferences. Through IPO, allotment of shares to the public makes the whole
system more transparent.

All in all; I personally feel that, Indian railway must be privatized to remove the present monopolist
operations and policies towards its functions and finally to bring about the most needed
improvement for the Indian trains cleanliness and overall hygiene will greatly improve.
