+ What's Working:
- Class is running smoothly and all students are participating
- Studetns are engaged in lesson
- Test scores are up
- Classroom management is doable
Current FocusChallengesConcerns:
- I may not be providing a cultural environment where all students feel safe sharing and
participating
- I would like to use less gender specific pronouns in class
- Questioning strategies need to be more randomized
- Not all students are engaged all of the time
- Am I speaking too loudly in class for some students?
Teacher's Next Steps:
- Pulling sticks makes for a more randomized process
- Work on using gender-neutral pronouns in class
- Engaging studetnts by using real-world examples based on gender and cultural
strategies
Mentor's Next Steps:
- Articles on randomizing questioning strategies
- Is there a case for gender segregation in schools?

Next Meeting Date: 2/13/14 Focus: Creating a culturally inclusive classroom

1. What achievement, growth or learning have your students
made? What is your evidence? How can you quantify (count
or measure) their growth?
My students test scores from last year to this year are
night and day different. I beleve that this has
something to do with the way that I am teaching as
well as the detail that I am paying to individual
classrooms.
2. What instructional decisions did you make that affected this
achievement?
Last year I was not on top of creating all of my SWAG's and I
was not prepped everyday for class. The sheer enormity of
trying to be a first year teacher at ATSA was overwhelming
but I am beginning to manage much better this year.
3. What impact did your work with your mentor have on your
instructional decisions?
I realize I need to provide more opportunity for students to
be engaged in the class discussions and learning. They
may not be involved because I have not recognized
cultural differences or allowed student to learn by the
means which are inherent to them. In the future it would
be wise to have that discourse at the beginning of a unit
where expectations and best practices can be discussed
as a class. This will help culturally diverse groups of
students feel more involved in class and with their own
educations.
