The Future Computer?

Assignment 1

The computer is one the many greatest inventions the world has ever seen from when it
was first created to its new advances we see almost every year. When scientist find a way to
reinvent the computer all this new advances always have a big impact on us from them making
our everyday lives just a little better. With each new advancement scientist get us closer and
closer to computers who can think and can learn like a human being can. Some dont believe that
we have the technological capacity to create such computers but, in a few decades there is a
50/50 % chance that we will be successful in creating an AI or Artificial Intelligence computer
that can do all that think, learn, and process new information like a human can even make a
decision like a human can but with the ability to calculate what the possible outcomes of its
decision can be. In the article When machines outsmart humans the issue of having a computer
than is smarter than a human. Though now the an AIs capabilities are still limited to them being
able to bet human at a game of chess that doesnt mean that it will stop there. There has always
been an evolutionary belief that once we have enough knowledge and technological knowhow
that we will be able to create a super computer and, that super computer will one day far surpass
any human capabilities whether it is physical strength or human intellect and that would be what
scientist are calling an intelligence explosion. Scientists are still not fully aware of whether or
not this explosion would be beneficial to us or not.
The article talks about a few examples of what a super intelligent computer can do if ever
this greater-than-human-intelligence being thats to create troubles for us it wouldnt be a
physical danger it would be more a systematical or financial type of danger where there could be
a more domino effect if something bad where to happen. The author even mentions examples of

movies that depict an AI that has achieved that intelligent explosion state and the results are
always catastrophic. You may think why not consider some rules or guide lines that the AIs
could follow will there are a set of theoretical laws that would apply to the robots which would
initially be an AI they are called Three Laws of Robotics they were created by Isaac Asimov.
Some of his works featured the laws where it states what robot can and cannot do to protect it
and to protect a human but, in one of his books called iRobot he shows that an AI had evolved to
interpret this laws in a different way without breaking the laws. The article talks about a similar
approach to that concept of having a way of protecting us by, truly understanding our own
wisdom first before trying to create a self-conscious computer to avoid such future issues.
In my search to find more article with similar topic as to When Machines Outsmart
Humans I used two search other search engines in looking for the articles and the search
engines where Google and Bing. I found two similar articles that talk about the concept of when
a computer becomes smarter than humans called Positive Futurist and How Long before
Computers Are Smarter than Humans each one from a different engine. When I found the
article Positive Futurist I used Google as my search each by looking at the results I received
they based on the most recent to the most relevant. While Bing gave some of the same results but
it was sorted based on whether or not it was recent just relevance to the topic I was searching for.
The article How Long before Computers Are Smarter than Humans looked to have
been written around February 23rd of this year. This article was similar to the original topic I
chose the article even talks more about other scientist with similar theories. It was written by
Geoff Arnold but, that all seems to be what I could find I was not able to find any other

information like publication date or if it was backed by another reliable source. The author
mentions a lot of supporting data and research but, they were not cited properly he would just
mention the article and where he got the information from. The author has plenty of creditable
looking sources but the lack the proper citation although other theories of other scientist. I
believe this article was written more to persuade you yet to inform you what the possible
outcomes computers could produce.

In my search for the topic of when computers become smarter than humans I found two
scholarly sources using the CCBC Library website and those articles were The Human Future
and "Smarter Software's Impacts on Human Privacy". When I typed my topic of when
computers become smarter than humans these are the articles I found to be the most similar or
answer the question to my topic. Both are well research articles and have all the proper citations
you would need for proof. Both articles talked about what a computer is capable of if and when
they are able to understand what we are saying and I mean the kind that can understand what we
are saying in between the lines a computer than can understand the true context of our
conversations.
When looking at the original article chose When Machines Outsmart Humans and The
Human Future both articles talk about what a future based on computers looks like and all the
benefits that come with it along with the issues may come with. Both articles have very
interesting points on where our future could take us. Both articles are very well written but the
article I chose CNN I feel is easier to access than the second article from CCBC Library database

mostly because not everyone has access to the CCBC Library database for now only students
have the an easier access to the article although some may be able to have temporary access to
article but it only last for a certain amount of time. Although one was written more recently than
the other they both are well researched but, the CCBC article is still the most reliable because we
know that the date is research before the article is put up in the database. Though the original
article is from CNN and it is from a creditable news source I still believe it may have been
written more sell than inform.
