Present age is an age of development and human progress is on
the peak of that stage where he couldn't reach in his past. This progress has also helped civilization to get nearer with one another. Where communication has played an important role in drawing them closer, it also has created some dangers for their existence as well. Due to amalgamation of different civilizations into a global community it has given a rise to the survival of identity of every civilization. In broader sense, civilization not only does mean the way of living or a specific culture of a society rather it includes almost all the aspects of human life including religion and historical heritage and a separate identity. Like all living civilizations, every nation instinctively wants the existence and the survival in the rapidly changing modern world. This strife one the part of different nations and civilizations has created a conflict, which can be termed as the clash of civilizations as no one wants to lose its identity and that’s what causes the confliction between different nations.
The term of civilization was first used in Bernard Lewis’s essay
titled “The Roots of Muslim Rage.” Afterwards, a controversial theory “Clash of Civilizations” was put forward by Samuel P. Huntington. The theory suggests that people’s cultural and religious identity will be the primary source of conflict in the post- Cold War period. It gained widespread attention after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. He divides the world’s cultures into seven current civilizations, Western, Latin American, Confucian, Japanese, Islamic, Hindu and Slavic-Orthodox. According to him:
“The great divisions among humankind and
the dominating sources of conflict will be cultural. The clash of civilization will dominate global politics.”
