1. What religious tensions existed in Yugoslavia pre-and during World War II?
During WWII the religious tensions were between the Serbs, Croats, Muslims,
Slovenes, Macedonians, Albanians, Montenegrins and Hungarians.
2. Why was Tito important in Yugoslavia?
Tito kept the peace in Yugoslavia. He controlled the army and didn't let one ethnic
group treat the others with disrespect. He was very important for keeping
Yugoslavia together.
3. What were Milosevics goals in Yugoslavia?
He wanted Serbia to control all of Yugoslavia.
4. Who did Serbian nationalists target in the Bosnian genocide?
They targeted Bosnian Muslims.
5. What happened in Srebrenica?
There was a massacre, 7,000-8,000 Bosnian Muslims were killed in July of 1995.
6. What does this incident suggestion about European leadership and the role of
the UN?
It shows that the European Leadership isnt taking things seriously and that the
UN isnt trying hard enough to keep the peace.
7. Who was responsible for eventual peace in Bosnia?
Bill Clinton issued a peace treaty in Dayton Ohio.
8. In your own words, describe ethnic cleansing.
Ethnic cleansing is when a group of people want to rule more than what they are
allowed, so they try to wipe out other groups of people to get what they want.
9. How did the map of Bosnia look after 1995?
The map of Bosnia does not have as many different ethnic groups in it as it used
too. Also, much of Bosnia was destroyed in the fighting.
10. Describe 2 problems Bosnia is facing today.
Today, Bosnia is facing many problems. One of them being that there are protests
currently in Bosnia. Another problem is that they are still rebuilding their economy
from the war.
