In the article FBI launches a face recognition system Jose Pagliery informs readers about the
NGI, the FBIs next generation identification system. Pagliery discusses the NGI systems missions, goals,
and concerns. The NGI system provides a faster, more efficient identification process and the FBI hopes
to expand on those biometric capabilities. The NGI system also aims to reduce terrorism, lessen criminal
activity, and provide screening and surveillance. That has caused a privacy concern because the NGI
system could inaccurately identify civilians and could potentially track civilians without justification.
The Two additional internet articles I found on the same topic are FBIs facial recognition technology
goes fully operational by Cheryl .K. Chumley-The Washington times and Facial Recognition software
tested county wide by law enforcement by David Gotfredson, field producer. The keywords I used to
perform the search were Facial recognition technology. I also tried facial recognition technology in law
enforcement. The two search engines I used was Google and Yahoo. Comparing the two search engines,
I noticed that Google had a lot of ads posted, but both search engines gave good search results.
Evaluating the article FBIs Facial Recognition Technology Goes Fully Operational I found that it was
recently written, and related to my topic and even provided more information. The author Cheryl K
Chumley was listed and is a continuous writer for the Washington times. The information was accurate
and was supported by evidence and cited. The purpose of this article was to inform.
The two scholarly journals on the same topic from the CCBC library databases found were, Drawing a
blank by and . The database I used was Proquest because it was listed as one of the top five databases
and I used facial recognition and facial recognition law enforcement for my keywords.
Comparing the journal and internet articles Drawing a blank and FBI launches a face recognition
system based on ease of access I found that they both were easy to find. The scholarly journals were
dated where the internet articles were recent, however some of the internet sources I had to check
whereas the scholarly journals are written by someone with subject expertise and must go through a
peer review evaluation before being published.
