Lesson 5
A. Write an overview of your plan of instruction and technology product by doing the
following:
1. Discuss the following elements of the plan and product: instructional goal, intended
audience, length, delivery approach, instructional sequence, materials needed
The instructional goal of my unit of instruction is to teach plumbers how to manage their
time. The specific goal is to help them submit a bid for typing to the office within 48 hours
of their trip to the customers location. The audience is a group of 12 plumbers, with an
average of close to 15 years plumbing experience. The length of the entire unit of
instruction is approximately eight hours of instruction and the delivery approach is a
combination of teacher-led and group work. The instructional sequence is:
1Whos in charge of your time?
2Timewhat is it and how do we manage it?
3Are you prepared?
4Time wasters
5Prioritizing
6Stress of NOT prioritizing
7Asking for help
8Bringing it all together
The materials needed are:
1 Bid Workflow worksheet for each plumber, pencils
2. Discuss each lesson or module in the plan of instruction.
5PrioritizingIn this lesson the plumbers are learning the difference between important
and urgent and how to identify each one and learn how to decide what would take priority.
3. Discuss how student performance is assessed.
The post-assessment for unit 5 asks the plumbers to order the steps they would use to
complete a bid. It also asks them to put an X by any items that would not be required to do
that particular type of bid. I will have an answer key for this post-assessment, with the
understanding that there may be variations among the plumbers. For example they are all
going to call for prices before they submit their bid for typing, but some might discuss any
potential issues with Mike or Scott before going to the jobsite the first time and others
might not discuss it until they are calling for prices, or getting ready to submit the bid for
typing.

Lesson 5
B. Describe how the instruction (e.g., planned pedagogies, strategies) is to be delivered so
that its delivery could be re-created from your description.
Overview: 5PrioritizingIn this lesson the plumbers are learning the difference between
important and urgent and how to identify each one and learn how to decide what would
take priority.
Pre-instructional activity: Divide the white board into sections and label the sections: At the
customers home on estimate day, at the office, on the way to the customers home on work
day. Have the plumbers start calling out information needed for a bid job, write it on the
board as they call it out, making sure they identify which category it would go in.
This should include things such as getting the information you need for a bid on the day you
need it, showing up on time and getting right to work, checking off your own checklist of
things you need to make sure you have done before leaving the office, then just getting
everything done and taking off to your first job, parts/equipment needed, etc.
Content Presentation: Power Point Presentation (see resource website) to go through the
work flow from showing up at the customers home to completing the job.
Learner Participation: Go through the PPP a second time, getting the plumbers input on
what would have been a more effective way to handle each particular slide, as the slides will
have been on the right track, but will have left much room for improvement (my thinking
here is that the slides will show how a rookie would have handled the job, but my plumbers
are mostly master plumbers, so they will have stepped up their game quite a bit from what
a rookie plumber would have done).
Post-assessment: Hand out Bid Workflow (in resource website) and instruct them to
complete the workflow.
Follow-through activities: Facilitate discussion on why they chose to put an X next to any
particular item on the Bid Workflow and why.

C. Provide a list of all instructional materials (e.g., handouts, books, assessments,
manipulatives, videos) that are used in the lessons or modules.

D. Provide a list of all physical resources needed in the instructional event (e.g., hardware,
lab equipment, calculators).
White board, marker, computer and projector or large monitor so that presentation can be
seen by all plumbers, a pencil for each participant

E. Provide all lesson plans, assessments, and handouts that could be reproduced by those
who use your plan of instruction.
See Weebly website (www.silveradoplumbing.weebly.com)

Note: This could also include media-related documents (e.g., press releases, advertising,
announcements).

F. Include design elements that contribute to the purpose of the plan of instruction.
Ease of use of the Weebly website, appropriate content that the plumbers can relate to,
consistent navigation throughout the website, choice of images for use on the website (use
of water and above ground plumbing since Im working with plumbers)
