Periodic-als Covalent Compound

Covalent Compound Selected: Nitrous Oxide
Why did you select this Covalent Compound? Is it Polar or Non-polar Covalent?: There
is no particular reason why I choose Nitrous Oxide other than the fact that its very
commonly known. nitrous Oxide is a polar covalent.
How is this Covalent Compound important/relevant to your life?: One day in the future I
might have to have my wisdom teeth taken out and nitrous oxide will be used.

1. nitrogen and oxygen
2. colorless, sweet smelling gas
3. used as anesthetics during dental procedures or surgeries
4. first discovered in 1722 by english scientist Joseph Priestley
5. is made by heating ammonium nitrate in the existence of iron filings, then passing
the gas that came off through water to remove toxic by-product
6. was discovered to be an anesthetics in 1840
7. when N

O is at room temperature it is unreactive with most alkali metals and
halogens

8. sometimes used as a propellant in aerosol cars in place of the usual CFCs which
causes damages to the ozone layer, provided a boost the the car
9. commonly referred to as laughing gas due to the fact that once inhaled in causes
euphoria
10. over exposure through inhalation may cause asphyxiation, same way as over
exposure of helium cause asphyxiation
