HISTORY OF
SOCIAL MEDIA
According to the Internet Society, the internet has revolutionized communication in
very useful ways. Overtime it has become a world-wide broadcasting capability and
also a mechanism for information. It began in 1957 when computers were invented
and then programmed, becoming part of time sharing, which allowed us to
communicate from one computer to another. The internet evolved over time
containing more and more useful information that benefitted society and allowed us
to become aware and updated in world-wide state.

HOW IS IT PERCEIVED
BY SOCIETY?
Over time, society has valued the internet increasingly and has become dependent on its
information. This alone informs us on its benefits and involvement with the internet as a
whole society. Over time the usage has increased to about 3,000,000,000 users world-
wide.

MEDIA PERCEIVED BY
MEDIA ITSELF
Evident that they are now a means of socialization
Enforces social norms and is greatly utilized by society
Confers status in a way that validates the media
Promotes consumption of what information we gain
Keeps us informed on world-wide issues, and simply a lot of
information in general

EVOLVEMENT OVER TIME
Throughout the generations, the media has became more popular, making it easier for
people to access not only through computers but technology such as phones, iPads, etc..
Books too can be accessed through the internet rather than buying the actual hardcopy or
even something as simple as picking up the daily newspaper. It has now become an
involvement which everyone partakes in not realizing how much of our lives revolve
around the internet itself. In the article Media: How media has evolved over the years and changed
generations, it states As the involvement of media and technology heightens, our next
generation is suffering from too much alone time and not enough time interacting with
people anymore. Its evolvement has been both negative and positive.
WHAT HAS CAUSED CHANGES
TO THIS INSTITUTION?
1. Technology alone, has sped up the usage of media.
2. Involvement with internet and social networks have given the
media a reason to invent and create more websites where people
can become part of (ex. Social, dating, and even shopping sites)
3. Media has been around for many years but is now at its peak
where it has influenced society in many different ways to where
ones life is basically on the internet.

WHAT HASN T CHANGED?
What will always remain the highest is the
mainstream media and then fall into the
industry media, social media, and lastly, the
other websites which have less usage because
of the less involvement they have within a
society and within the credibility compared to
those other websites which have a greater
history of usage and involvement.
HOW WOULD I IMPROVE MY
INSTITUTION IN SOCIETY?
Id limit usage of internet, in order to allow for families to have the
same interaction and communication prior to the media
One day without the media would improve many matters within
peoples lives.
MAJ OR PARTICIPANTS?. . . THEIR
ROLES AND STATUSES?
Everyone in society participates in the media but the major people
that do so are usually those who create websites or even blogs. Their
roles play a huge part because of the amount of time they put into
improving social sites and allowing for it to benefit the users. After
them, we follow. We set our time into making use to what is available
to us through exploring the media and finding what wed be able to
utilize the most, whether it be a negative or positive website.
