Grade Level: 5 Prior Knowledge/Learning Students have completed a lesson on the Eureka Stockade and all the circumstances in the lead up. Students have completed inquiry-based research tasks.
Rationale: The purpose of this lesson is for students to explore the Eureka Stockade using the 6 Thinking Hats as a guide.

Plan Content/Methodology Time Allocation Introduce the students to the 6 Thinking Hats and use the PowerPoint to quickly go over what each hat represents, more details are on the cards they will be given.
Students will be in their table groups and will be given a card with one of the hats and questions relating to the Eureka Stockade. Students will then be given time to re-visit the books and online texts that have been used in the unit so far. Each group will be given 3 or 4 minutes to discuss amongst themselves and then they will have the same amount of time to record their answers on the record sheet. After the set time the cards will be swapped between the tables and then they can have a go at the next one.
Students will come back down to the floor and each table group will share the information they found for the last card they completed. 10 mins

Differentiated Learning: Table groups allows for mixed ability grouping. Those who have completed the task can generate their own questions to answer. The questions must be connected to the relevant hat.
