Staff Meeting
Luis Savaran Oniava Mole (San)
Sports Director

What do you do at FT?
I have been working in the sports area of
FT for 7 years. I am a childrens football
trainer, I visit their families, and I teach PE
in a local school, as well as supporting the
church pastor in doing daily devotions with
the FT staff. As a sports team, we also train
leaders in CYCAS (Community, Youth,
Children and Sports).

What do you like best about your job?
I like having spending time with the kids
and getting to know their families, and to
be able to help them, both practically and
spiritually.

What is the goal of the Sports Area?
To share the Gospel in an unobtrusive way,
to be a good testimony in the way we live
our lives, and speak with the kids little by
little, while playing and training on the
sports pitch.

What would you like to say to FT
supporters?
Thank you for all your prayer and financial
support. This is all Gods work, and we are
just His servants. We are partners with you
in sharing the Gospel.

RECENT MEDICAL CAMPAIGNS
In August, Dr Richard Wagner (USA) joined the Fundacin Tota
(FT) medical team once again to lead a 4 day surgical campaign,
which was made possible by the support of CBM. Alongside our
own ENT surgeon, Dr Yakov Lopez, doctors and students from the
USA and other cities in Bolivia joined the medical team to
perform 19 specialist ear surgeries over the 4 day period. As well
as providing these much needed operations, the campaign also
served as a unique training opportunity for doctors and nurses to
observe complicated procedures in major ear surgery.

In September, a team of doctors and nurses from FT travelled to
Riberalta (a city in the Beni region, near the Brazillian border) to
provide medical attention at a school for children with hearing
impairment, and in the local community. The team attended over
300 different patients over the weekend in specialist areas such
as ENT, Maxilofacial and Audiology. General Medicine and
Nursing appointments were also provided. Patients identified as
needing surgery were referred to the health centre here at FT.

The usual work of the health centre continues on a daily basis and
there are visits to local schools and nurseries twice a week in the
afternoons to provide health checks for the children. Referrals are
made when necessary for the children to come to the health
centre for follow up treatment.

PARENTING WORKSHOPS IN THE
COMMUNITY
In September the two mother and toddlers groups were
temporarily replaced by parenting workshops called
The Eight Guidelines for Good Interaction. The course
was developed by the World Health Organisation (WHO)
and the International Child Development Programme
(ICDP) for mums with young children (0-5 year olds) to
encourage positive mother child interaction.
Over these 5 weeks, the mums had homework
assignments based on the guidelines that had been
taught and they would share their experiences with the
other mums in the group the next week. We used
presentations, videos, games, brainstorming and small
groups to teach the course, and it was a real joy to see
12 mums complete the course last week! A third
workshop group is currently being run with mums in a
local nursery for children with additional support needs.

SPORTS OUTREACH

Two of FTs staff, San (sports director) and Elizabeth
(interim education and community director) travelled to
Santa Cruz in August to participate in a 10 day intensive
CYCAS (Children, Youth, Children and Sports) training
course. CYCAS is an international organization that works
with children, young people and adults, sharing the
Gospel in a dynamic and creative way. They both found
this to be a really encouraging and positive time of
teaching and training and they came back full of
enthusiasm and with new skills and tools to share with the
rest of the sports team here at FT.

Last year a group was trained using CYCAS materials here
in Trinidad, and this month another training course will be
held, led by San, Elizabeth and the rest of the sports team.

This course will take place over 3 Saturdays and there are
16 teenagers and young adults registered for this training
which will take place on the 11
th
, 18
th
and 25
th
October
2014.

Please pray for this course and all the participants and
leaders involved in the training.
