1. Anticipatory Set/Opening Good lesson plan and structure, the warm up was solid and the repetition was good!

2. Delivery-Demonstration/Explanation Good, make sure you show the technique in numerous ways/angles/approaches so everyone gets a good chance to see it done. Perhaps practice a bit before the lesson!
1 2 3 Definitely need to have more confidence in areas I am unsure of.
3. Content, Activities & Progression Make sure you describe the WHY behind your progression. I loved the progression!
1 2 3
4. Teaching Methods & Strategies Can you enhance student learning by changing your strategy? Would they be more successful if they had more exposure to the skills or progression?
1 2 3 I imagine if there was more demonstration and maybe only thrown one throw technique out at a time. More exposure would have definitely been a good starting point.
5. Student Participation (Time-on-Task)

6. Skill Correction & Feedback How did you correct form and make positive feedback a part of your lesson?
1 2 3 I only corrected form if it was obviously. Needed to be more proactive.
7. Assessment Strategies How can you assess? How do you know a student is learning what you are teaching? Can we set up a competition like you did that is individualized but not too competitive? Perhaps throw discs into a trash can from a particular distance?
1 2 3 If students are performing the functions correctly, then I should realize they are learning.
8. Check for Understanding/Inquiry How can you recap with application for each student?
1 2 3 One on one time with every student who is throwing would have been beneficial.
9. Closure Make sure to cover each topic as you did and ask for any questions/concerns!

Please use the back of this page to answer the following: Based on the above evaluation, please provide a detailed explanation of your thoughts/feelings about your performance today. Do you agree/disagree with the feedback given (4 pts)? Give an example of how you would change your lesson to meet the suggestions I have made (5 pts). How can you capitalize on your strengths and make this a more dynamic lesson (5 pts)? With knowledge of your weaknesses what will you do to draw upon those around you for support (5 pts)? How has this lesson affected you as an instructor (5 pts)?
My performance today was not one of my strongest that I have had in the past. Due to the fact that I wasnt super confident myself in throwing a disc, my lesson may have fallen short when it came to detail. I think I did well as far as getting the concept and plan for the day across to the students, but the small detail and overall correction could have been addressed more. I do agree with the feedback given.
I would have focused on one-on-one with students to go over how to hold the disc, address the form of the elbow, the flick of the wrist, and the follow through, etc. The suggestion of target practice is a good idea. Break the dynamic up and have a solitary object to throw to could have enhanced the progression of the lesson.
I believe my strengths are creativity and positive tempo as far as teaching style. Like mentioned earlier, I could have had an activity where there is larger progression and added a little competition to the overall lesson. It makes the students want to learn and then perform.
With lack of confidence in this lesson, I went into teaching knowing that a personal demonstration might not be the best option. Having a second party demonstrate technique was very beneficial because it illustrated well what I was trying to get across. Other than asking for outside help, I can motivate and encourage and express to everyone how this is a learning process for the whole group.
Between fitness skills and now field skills, this is the first lesson I taught that I didnt feel as confident in the lesson. With that being addressed, I realize that this exact thing will happen in any teaching position. Extensive preparation is the best way to gain confidence and never be afraid to ask for help from someone who knows more. It shows that
as an instructor, you understand its not about who knows more or who is better, its about getting the best utilization out of a lesson to make the greatest potential for students and teachers available.
