We just recently learned about the Integrated Reading Section under Instruction in Classworks. My
students love science and social studies so I was eager to try to utilize these in my classroom. The
students help me choose what passage we will read and they love working on the board to help read
the text, answer the questions and highlight where the information is in the passage.
This has helped them tremendously with the Common Core Reading Standards because students
have to be able to fnd the details that help them answer questions. They like the passages and the
format so much that they beg to do these activities and are more engaged in our classroom and the
lesson than a paper and pencil assignment. I am also really pleased that the passages have a Lexile
label on them so I know that the text is appropriate for second grade.

Classworks receives a Thumbs Up from our school. We are in our third year using the program. With 90
minutes in the computer lab a week, I get to see every student in our school excel in their academics
because of their practice time in Classworks. The ILPs are an important feature because each student
is working in assignments that meet their individual needs. The new Integrated Reading feature is an
excellent addition for practicing reading during whole group and as a weekly assignment. The open-
ended questions encourage the students to really dig deep and think about how to solve the problem.

Classworks has been a great tool used to promote literacy through technology in my
classroom. I can project mini-lessons that are designed specifcally for concepts and
objectives we are using in the classroom onto the screen, and students can learn
interactively. Along with student-leveled literature, the lessons provide fun and
interactive games that make learning enjoyable. The benefts of using Classworks is not
only to improve state testing scores by improving the literacy of my students, but also
to enhance and improve reading skills needed for success in students daily lives in an
exciting and novel way. This program helps students develop reading skills through a
variety of visuals and contexts, develops an interest in reading, and promotes student
attention and focus.

My 4th grade students rotate through 4 Guided Reading stations each morning. These
stations include small group instruction with me, read to self activities, Classworks,
and word work activities. The Classworks station allows me to provide students with
individual learning paths which are used for diferentiation. I can have students work
on specifc weaknesses or enhance their learning through enrichment activities. I also
use Classworks to teach mini lessons using my Smart Board. Classworks has become an
integral part of my instruction and allows me to provide parents with documentation
of student strengths and weaknesses.
