A#5: Everyday Leadership

While serving as Co-President for the Korean American Student Association on campus, I have to deal
with lots of unexpected issues and different personalities. But rather than trying to fix problems and
cleaning up after mistakes that my executive board member(s) has made, I try to place my focus on the
person rather than the action. As the header leader of an organization, I believe that if I treat my
executive board with respect and good teaching/direction, they will perform all their duties correctly
and with ownership. And if I had not made a mistake in choosing my executive board, then this sense of
ownership will motivate each person to do their best for the team/organization. My everyday leadership
style is to instill a sense of duty within each member. Instead of telling them what needs to be done, I
tell the group what we plan to do, and ask each person what they think needs to be done. But, that
doesnt go without me doing my own homework. When someone forgets one aspect then it is my job to
point out what they have forgotten and make sure they realize it is their responsibility to perform this
job. I believe this empowers my board members and makes them feel as if KASA is their responsibily.
