The Teachings of Judaism

Jews call Moses our teacher for giving them their
laws.

Rabbis began to interpret how the laws should be
followed. The discussions were written in the
Talmud, finished about A.D. 600.

Because these written works are vital to Judaism,
many Jews work hard to understand and comment
on them.

Saul, David, and Solomon were the first three kings of
Israel.

Solomon, Davids son, had the First Temple constructed.

Shortly after Solomons death, a civil war occurred, and
the kingdom of Israel was split in two parts, Judah in the
south and Israel in the north.

The Kingdom of Israel
The northern kingdom of Israel ended when the
Assyrians conquered it.

About a hundred years later, the southern kingdom of
Judah was conquered by the Babylonians. They forced
the Jews to leave their homeland.

Finally, Cyrus the Great of Persia allowed the Jews to
return to Jerusalem.

In Jerusalem, the Jews rebuilt the city walls and erected
the Second Temple.

The Diaspora
