Students will use a country or religion from their mind map Eg. A country their parents were born and
research interesting facts on the computer about that country or religion and present this to the
class. Facts need to be about customs, dress code, language, celebrations to do with that country or

their wellbeing books.

the class and others can find things they have in common with other students

The teacher will talk about the issue of changing the
national anthem and the flag of Australia.

Discuss in partners and conduct a Positive, Minus,
Interesting (PMI) about the issue of changing the
national anthem and the flag of Australia. (Students can
rule up three columns in their IBL books)

Students will design their own new Australian flag and
write about why they have chosen those particular
colours, themes, animals, etc.

Students will finish off their Australian National Days of
importance posters

Extension: Early finishers can research another Australian
National Day of Importance and make a poster for this.

Investigating multiculturalism and immigration
exploring the affect this had on the food in
Melbourne and availability of new and
interesting vegetables/fruits/styles of cooking.

The teacher will write a definition of
multiculturism and immigration on the Wonder
Wall:
Multiculturalism: The co-exsistence of diverse
cultures including races, religion, cultural
groups, values, behaviours, patterns of thinking
and communicative styles.

Immigration: The act of coming to live
permanently in a foreign country (When
someone from another country legally is
allowed to live in Australia).

Students to sort the fruits and vegetables into
either Australian or Other and identify what
other country the fruit or vegetable comes
from. Students can use the iPads to help them.
Students then create a list of foods that are
Australian and that come from elsewhere
around the world.

Extension:
Students will research and write in their IBL
books about what immigration is, why it is

important to have laws about immigration and
what are the positives/negatives about having
