Taste of Kelantan

BY TENGKU SOFIAH AISHAH - 3 OCTOBER 2014 @ 8:05 AM

If you crave Kelantanese food, a new service offers breakfast flown in from the east
coast State, writes Tengku Sofiah Aishah
FOOD is what Kelantanese look forward to when they return to their hometowns and
the first thing they would do is look for a nasi berlauk stall for breakfast.
But if you are in Kuala Lumpur, dont worry. Kelate Flying Breakfast (KFB) flies in
breakfast from land of The Red Warriors.
From only selling Husna nasi berlauk (a.k.a nasi berlauk air dingin), KFB has
expanded its menu to cater to popular request.
While there are lots of choices in Kelantan, not many suppliers can accommodate
our timing. The food is loaded on the earliest flight out of Kota Baru, so everything
must be ready by 5am, says KFB spokesperson Tengku Nor Azah, fondly known as
Cik Jah, who wakes up at 4am to ensure everything is packed and ready to fly.
Prices start from as low as RM3 for nasi himpit sambal, while nasi tumpang special
(layers of food wrapped in a banana leaf cone) is RM10.
SWEET ACCOMPANIMENTS
Apart from the main menu of savoury dishes, you can get dessert (yes, these are
breakfast items) like akok, buah tanjung, jala mas and sekaya.
From 9.30am, customers can pick up their orders in Shah Alam, Bukit Jelutong, Kota
Damansara, Puchong, USJ, Bangi, Putrajaya, USJ, Putra Heights, Ampang and
Wangsa Maju. The timing is just right as city folks usually have a late breakfast on
weekends.
We will inform customers if there are delays. Some locations will be slightly later
because they are further from the airport, she says.
NEW ADDITION
Recently KFB introduced its first premium menu, ayam percik warisan Che Selamah.
Its a bit pricey but its worth it. The chicken is cooked the traditional way, unlike
those in Klang Valley where the gravy is just poured on grilled chicken, says Cik
Jah.
This ayam percik recipe comes from her late grandmother.
KFB is expanding its business to weekdays and its offerings will soon be available at
Hayaki Kopitiam in Shah Alam.
To order, go to its Facebook page Kelate Flying Breakfast or follow them on twitter
and Instagram @KelateBreakfast or call 017-331 5667.
