Purpose: Students will interact with their peers; taking time to get to know new facts about each other or become acquainted with students new to the district.
Procedure: The teacher will pass out a BINGO card to each student. Students will answer each question on line 1. Then students will move around the classroom and find other students to match their answer. The matched peers name will go on line 2. The teacher will provide prizes of his or her choosing when the BINGO card is full of matches.
Title: Starburst
Purpose: This activity can be done to introduce a large unit and have students identify what they would like to learn. It can also be a beginning-of-the-school-year activity for students to share a few facts about themselves.
Procedure: Teachers will pass a bag of Starburst (or any other colored candy) around the class, instructing students to take two or three pieces. On the board (or projector), teacher will write the colors found in the candy bag: Red, Pink, Yellow, Orange. Beside each color, write what youd like students to tell the class or the question youd like answered. Some examples for prompts: What would you like to learn during this class/year? What job would you like to do when you are finished with school? What was the favorite thing you did this summer? How many books did you read this summer? What was your favorite? Name your favorite place on earth.
Go first in this activity to model what youd like students to do. My name is Mrs. Sietstrathen respond to the prompts.
