10. Communication and Collaboration (LO 4.1) (APS 10)
A. Family Communication
When assisting students in the learning process, making time to communicate and collaborate with students families is crucial. When school and home collaborate and communicate, students are most likely to succeed. Here are three different times that I will effectively communicate regularly with parents/guardians during the semesters. I will be communicating with parents/ guardians about classroom announcements, their childs behavior, or their academics.
1. At the beginning of the year, I will be sending out a welcome letter to parents/guardians via email or by their child that informs parents/guardians about who I am and what my plans consist of for their child this year.
*Attached is a copy of the Welcome letter*
2. On every Friday, I will be sending out Weekly Newsletters to parents via email. These Weekly Newsletters will inform parents/guardians on an array of classroom information ranging from exams dates, texts dates, quiz dates, homework, field trips, and picture day.
*Attached is a copy of the Newsletter*
3. When it is necessary, I will communicate with parents/guardians using notes home to notify parents of their childs good or disruptive behavior.

B. Communication/Collaboration with Colleagues
To make sure all students needs are met and to reassure their safety while in school, I will have to communicate and collaborate with colleagues at my school. In order for my students to make real world connections, I will communicate and collaborate with members form the community. Here are some ways I could collaborate with colleagues and the community.
1. In hopes of increasing the amount of participants that show up for the annual career day, I could publish an ad in the local newspaper asking if anyone would be interested in coming to our schools Annual Career Day.
*Attached is an example of the Newspaper ad*
2. Since the passing of the law stating that special education students must be included in general education classroom, the communication between special education teachers and general education teachers has increased. I will email the special education teacher about an IEP meeting for one of our students.
3. At least once a year, students take field trips to many different places. When planning a field trip to the state fire department I would need to email, call, or have a one on one meeting with the chief firefighter. When communicating, I will need to know what day would be great, could we bring bag lunches, and could firefighters show students a mock trial of them putting on their firefighter gear.

September 12, 2014
Dear Parents or Guardians,
My name is Marvaye Payton. I am currently a senior Elementary Education major at Lander University. I will be completing my 429 Field Experience from September 15, 2014 until November 14, 2014. I will be assisting Mrs. Hamiltons class in English and Social Studies by co-teaching, grading, filing papers, and teaching a minimal of five lessons with her supervision. I am extremely excited to be apart of your childs academic success.
I am a native of Abbeville and I graduated from Abbeville High School in 2010. Currently, I am in the Call Me MISTER Program at Lander University, which is also preparing me for the classroom. Also at Lander, I am a member of the Palmetto Teacher Association. I believe that children need a mentor instructing them towards becoming an effective role model and I am more than capable of doing that. I am looking forward to watching your child grow!
I hope that we will have a great time this fall and please feel free to contact me through Mrs. Hamiltons email at hamiltonl@gwd50.org or calling Westview Middle School at (864)-229-4301.
Thank you,
Mr. Payton

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Gable,
I wanted you to know that today, Brendon, your child displayed an extreme amount of character. After a fellow student fell out of their chair in Social Studies, Brendon, without being told, helped his fellow classmate up. While others laughed, Brendon proceeded to them that it isnt funny that he fell; he could have hurt his self. You all should be proud!
Thank you,
Mr. Payton

Local School needs your assistance
On November 5, 2014, Westview Middle School will be hosting their annual Career Day and assistances from the local community are needed. To increase the knowledge of our students about the different career paths available to them, we would like for entrepreneurs, business leaders, local politicians, mechanics, and doctors etc. to come and inform students. If you are interested and would like to participate please contact Mr. Marvaye Payton at marvaye.payton@lander.edu or calling Westview Middle School at 864-377-0987.

These assignments are cross-curricular and will culminate through the creation of a Middle Ages newspaper.
