Formwork beams
DU-AL aluminium beams
The use of aluminium over timber has
great advantages. Aluminium is lighter
and stronger than timber and therefore
allows for larger assemblies of
formwork, which in turn reduces the
labour cost of fixing and erecting.
Harsco Infrastructure offers three types
of DU-AL aluminium beams, each
with varying properties that cover a
range of applications.
The single-web S150 and twin-web
T150 beams are supplied with timber
inserts to allow for plywood to be fixed.
The S150 is available for general use to
suit all budgets and the stronger T150 is
ideal for when a combination of high
loading and larger support centres are
required.
TheT225 primary beam is lightweight
and easily handled yet capable of
resisting moments up to 29kNm and
loads up to 100kN providing the ideal
solution for primary support, particularly
for strip and re-erect applications.

LOGIK

60 is a panel formwork system

employed for the construction of
concrete walls. The range of panel sizes
and components allow for a multitude
of arrangements making the system
ideal for a wide variety of situations
encountered. Difficult formwork areas
such as corner positions can be
constructed with straightforward
solutions by using standard
components.
LOGIK

60 panels are used in standard

applications to resist concrete
pressures of up to 60kN/m
2
and feature
a special rolled steel profile around the
perimeter (140mm in depth) that
encloses the high quality 18mm thick,
13ply Finnish Birch plywood.
Intermediate stiffeners provide support
to the plywood at 300mm centres and
the edge is sealed with polyurethane.
Tie holes are positioned to allow for
maximum efficiency by using a
minimum number of tie rods.
The LOGIK

60 system can be used in

conjunction with other Harsco
Infrastructure products including
climbing formwork and MkII Soldiers.
60kN/m
2
. All panels 60kN/m
2
can be
supported providing certain constraints
are acceptable.
21
Robust large area formwork panels with
minimal clamping requirements.
Assembly
Panels are clamped rigidly together
through the unique ALL clamp. Clamps
are positioned between panel edges
along the panel stiffeners and a simple
hammer-action provides three
important functions, namely to align,
lock and level panels. The clamp
engages with the special rolled edge
profile of the panel and is effective such
that part assemblies can be crane-lifted
flat off the ground without the need for
additional structural members and grout
loss is prevented during use. A large
number of re-uses are possible without
the need for complete disassembly.
Access
Walkway brackets can be attached to
LOGIK

60 panels offering a safe and

practical solution to give access for
pouring. Scaffold boards (four no. wide)
or DU-AL beams and plywood can be
fixed to the brackets providing a
suitable deck. Standard scaffold tube
and fittings can be fixed to the brackets
providing adequate edge protection.
EXTRAGUARD may be used as an
alternative providing a greater standard
of edge protection.
A removable attachment bracket
ensures that walkway brackets can be
fixed even if panels are used
horizontally.

True circular panel formwork system
Fast and simple setting procedure
Lightweight slim profile
Compatible with LOGIK

60
LOGIK

360 is the first circular panel

formwork system that can claim to
produce a true curve without any flat
spots. The patented design
demonstrated Harsco Infrastructures
innovative approach to circular
formwork, with minimal components
and full compatibility with our LOGIK

60 panel system. The numerous

components and hundreds of bolts
associated with traditional methods of
circular formwork have now been
eliminated.
Standard panel widths of 1.25m
(external) and 1.24m (internal) allow for
circualr walls to be formed as small as
4m in radius. A range of panel heights
are available that are rated similar to
LOGIK

60 at 60kN/m
2
pressure.
The system uses the same
components as LOGIK

60 making it
possible to pour straight and curved
walls together, avoiding the need for
construction joints between.
LOGIK

360
Wall formwork
27
Superior assembly times for truly circular
panel formwork without any flat spots.
Assembly
The internal and exteranl panels are
colour coded for easy identification.
Each panel has four turnbuckles that are
easily adjusted with a supplied spanner
to preset the plywood face to the
required radius. A simple pre-made
timber template can be used to check
the accuracy of the radius. Panels are
fixed together using LOGIK

60
adjustable clamps and tie washer/nuts
provide support to tie rods. Concrete
chute supports can be fixed to the top
of panels to prevent spillage over the
turnbuckles.
Access
Walkway brackets can be attached to
the LOGIK

360 panels to give safe

access for pouring. Depending on the
radius of the wall, scaffold boards or
DU-AL beams and plywood can be
fixed to the brackets providing a
suitable deck. Tube guardrails or
EXTAGUARD can be fixed to the
intergrated guard post.

three main components
Unique locking ledger frames located
at any position along the leg
Used with DU-AL aluminium
beams and MkII Soldiers
Developed from extensive experience
gained from working on many of the
largest and most demanding
construction projects worldwide,
GASS

has been specially designed as

a lightweight, high capacity system that
is easy to use, fast to erect and uses
only a small range of components.
With a number of international patents
to protect its innovative design, GASS

has proved popular on a wide variety of

projects globally including bridges,
tunnels, reservoirs, commercial
projects including airports, retail
developments and offices. The strength
and versatility offered from the system
allows for the wider range of
construction projects, yet it still offers
competitive economic advantages
regardless of the application.
41
Soffit support
The GASS

system can be used to suit

a number of construction methods for
slab formwork and support. Strip and
re-erect utilises the high safe working
loads with large efficient grids and
minimal quantities and high floor to
soffit heights can be achieved.
Flying/rolling tables are suited for
repetitive multi-storey construction
allowing for quicker cycle times with
minimal dismantling required between
floors and sections. This application can
be used to reduce risks associated with
working at height and flying tables can
be safely lifted without the need for
loading platforms at the building edge.
Support to permanent formwork and
pre-cast units is straightforward.
Assembly
With just three main individual
components, outer leg, inner leg and
ledger frame, assembly is quick and
simple. A locking feature on the ledger
frames gives visible assurance that it is
secured. Access platforms can be used
on top of ledger frames to allow for firm
working areas for taller assemblies.
DU-AL aluminium beams and MkII
Soldiers provide a versatile range of
primary and secondary bearers for the
soffit support. The range of beam
lengths available with differing
properties to suit ensure an economic
solution for the majority of projects.
GASS

has been designed to require only

three main individual components, outer leg,
inner leg and ledger frame.

CUPLOK

was the first ever

galvanised, multi-purpose scaffold
system in the UK. It is a well proven
heavy duty support system which is
relatively light and easy to assemble
and suitable for falsework support and
access for a range of building and civil
engineering projects.
Harsco Infrastructures experience of
using CUPLOK

on projects all over the

world enables us to offer you absolute
confidence when using this system.
Hot-dipped galvanising is the finest
practical coating that can be applied to
a scaffold system, providing a long
working life and better handling to the
user as well as improved appearance
and durability.
47
Fast connections and 74kN leg load
with the original system scaffold.
Soffit support
The range of CUPLOK

equipment
gives the system the capability to tackle
virtually any soffit support application
with the most cost-effective approach.
We can provide a large number of grid
variations to fit steel, aluminium or
timber joists.
CUPLOK

can be used in conjunction

with DU-AL

aluminium beams
DU-AL

s high strength and low weight

result in increased productivity with a
selection of three types of beams in a
variety of lengths. In each case the
beams are supported in forkheads and
fastened by means of a quick fixing
clamp.
Assembly
The principal feature of CUPLOK

is the
unique node point - locking up to four
horizontals in one single action without
the use of nuts, bolts or wedges.
The locking device is formed by a fixed
lower cup, which is welded to the
vertical at 0.5m intervals, and a sliding
upper cup. The forged blade ends of the
horizontals are located in the lower cup.
The upper cup is moved down and
rotated by hammer blows to give a
positive and rigid connection.

TOPEC

Slab formwork
Areas quickly covered with large 1.8m
2
panels
Safe erection and dismantling from ground for all heights
Secondary/primary beams and clamps not required
Quick and simple assembly with minimal main
components - panel, prop and bearing
TOPEC

is a simple, cost effective slab formwork system

designed to deliver high output rates in conventional building
applications. The system was developed over
20 years ago and soffit support assembly is used widely
across the world.
Verified by independent testing bodies, TOPEC

has been
proven to be simpler and quicker to erect and strike than any
other slab support system on the market.
With just basic training and familiarisation needed, the
system offers significant cost advantages over conventional
table forms, not only due to reduced erection times, with
easy to handle, lightweight aluminium framed panels, but
also because dependency on crane lifting is kept to a
minimum.
Soffit support
Slab thicknesses of up to 400mm can be supported with use
of the large 1.8m
2
panel. The 1.8m x 0.9m panel and smaller
panels are able to support thicker slabs from 500 - 750mm.
EUROPLUS tubular steel props or GASS

aluminium legs
provide support to the panels. EUROPLUS props generally
give the more economic solution and feature a quick release
mechanism. GASS

offers added strength and flexibility.

Assembly
A small team of just three to four workers is generally
sufficient for fast and safe erection of TOPEC

.
The system is designed to be erected from the supporting
level for propping heights up to 3.5m. Panels are simply
hooked on to the supports and raised with the erection rod
which enables additional supports to be installed and
subsequently more panels to be raised.
At heights over 3.5m, an automatedTOPEC

lift machine can

be used to assist in the placement and removal of panels.
Alternatively, the method of erection at heights over 3.5m
can be easily carried out with the use of a small mobile
scaffold or a mobile elevated work platform (MEWP).

The bearings are mounted on
EUROPLUS or GASS

props and
support theTOPEC

panels. The
symmetrical head has 3cm high cams
that prevent horizontal movement of
each panel corner supported. The

Bearing for guardrail posts
For theTOPEC

system,
EXTRAGUARD posts can be fitted to
purpose designed bearings to allow for
edge protection to be fixed around the
perimeter of TOPEC

assemblies.
Different bearings are available to suit
the type of support being used and
railing shoes can be attached to the
TOPEC

panels.
TOPEC

scissor lift
The scissor lift is available to automate
the assembly and removal of panels up
to a height of 5.7m. This eliminates the
need for low level access required to
erect panels on slab heights above
3.5m. Details available on request.
Code No. H569844
The preferred position of the railing shoe is as
shown opposite. This allows the shoe arm to
engage into the hole of the adjacent stronger side
profile (identified as having a series of round
holes). In all uses, the railing shoe should be fixed
adjacent to and within 200mm of the stronger
side profile.

MULTIFORM

climbing bracket
Climbing formwork
Complete solution to climbing of
formwork
Compatible with all types of
formwork systems including LOGIK

panel system and traditional

formwork
Larger unit sizes up to 7.2m wide
External platforms over 2m in depth
Mesh guard edge protection
The MULTIFORM

climbing system
provides a robust solution for the
construction of high rise building
projects yet meets the safety and
economic demands of a highly
competitive industry.
Units are crane-lifted in line with the
construction of walls that are cast with
anchors/formed pockets to which units
are supported off.
The system can be used in conjunction
with the LOGIK

panel formwork
systems to facilitate the construction of
high rise lift cores, stair walls and
perimeter walls. Traditional formwork
(MkII Soldiers and DU-AL beams) and
other proprietary panel systems can
also be used with the MULTIFORM

climbing system.
DU-AL aluminium beams offer
platform sizes up to a practical
maximum of 7.2m wide. A range of
beam lengths are available to suit the
structure and unit size required. Timber
beams may also be used up to a
maximum size of 225mm high.
EXTRAGUARD, standard tube
guardrails and mesh guard can be
supplied for the MULTIFORM

climbing
system, offering edge protection that is
flexible towards site requirements.
Mesh guard has been developed
specifically for the climbing systems
providing secure protection up to 3.8m
high.
59
External support
A choice of the guided climbing system
or the more traditional jump-form
system can be used for external
support of formwork. Jump-form units
are supported off external shoes. These
are fixed to cast-in tie anchors and
climbing cones. Climbing cones can be
recovered and re-used as construction
progresses, whilst tie anchors remain
cast in the structure.
Guided climbing distinguishes itself
from jump-form through the use of
guide tracks that are secured to the
structure via twin cast-in tie anchors
and climbing cones. These enable the
climbing units to maintain contact with
the structure during all times of use
thus allowing for simpler and safer
lifting operations. Repositioning of units
is quicker and more accurate.
Internal support
Internal platforms can be used to
support formwork to aid construction of
lift cores and stair walls. The internal
platform is made up of a primary
support beams that supports DU-AL
aluminium beams and a plywood
decking.
The primary support beams have
pivoting feet that sit securely within
pre-formed wall pockets. When the
internal platform is lifted to the next
level, the feet are allowed to rotate out
however return to the supporting
position under their own self-weight on
reaching the next pre-formed wall
pockets.
Wall pockets are cast using steel pocket
formers that are fixed to the formwork.
These are retrieved after each pour and
re-used for subsequent levels.
Alternatively, end beam connectors that
sit on internal shoes can be used rather
then using pivoting feet and pre-formed
pockets. The internal shoes have a
pivoting support plate and are fixed to
cast-in tie anchors and climbing cones.
A complete solution to your climbing
requirements.

MULTIFORM

parapet brackets are

Harsco Infrastructures market leading
bridge parapet formwork system. The
bracket has been specifically designed
to provide a quick and safe cantilever to
facilitate the construction of concrete
edge projections and parapets. Used on
bridges of either steel girder or precast
concrete beam composition, the
system utilises less equipment than
traditional underslung arrangements.
Adjustable positioning jacks remove the
need for timber packs and the system
consists of just one standard bracket
size made up from MULTIFORM

beams. This enables bolt on extensions

to be fixed for longer concrete edge
projections.
77
Assembly

Underslung suspended falsework
Steel composite bridges
Pre-cast concrete bridges
Overslung static/travelling frame
Standard MkII Soldiers and ancillaries
can be used for the construction of
concrete parapets and bridge decks.
The soldiers can be underslung beneath
the bridge to enable the concreting of
bridge decks and parapets to both steel
composite and pre-cast concrete bridge
construction.
The strong, versatile MkII Soldiers
make an ideal solution for suspending
bridge falsework over roads, railway
lines and waterways.
The underslung solution can be used
for the construction of the full width of
a bridge deck in a single pour.
The MkII Soldier has also been used on
numerous projects as an overslung
frame. This solution gives an
economical frame for repairing bridge
parapets or casting newly formed
parapets after the central deck section
has been poured.
The versatile MkII Soldier overslung
frame can be a project-specific design,
using standard soldier components, to
make a strong, stable frame for the
construction of any size of parapet.

CUPLOK

Bridge construction
74kN leg load
Unique node point: four connections
in one
Systemised quick-erection bracing
20% lighter than traditional
scaffolding
The design of CUPLOK

is ideal for
bridge support work since its strength
and versatility can produce great
savings in erection and supervision
times on site. The fastening of four
components at once, on one level,
makes CUPLOK

a highly economical
support medium.
Systemised bracing and the rocking
(sloping) components cater for falls in
both directions. Harsco Infrastructure
have a wide variety of ledger sizes
(from 0.6m to 2.5m) to produce the
most economical grid layout for any
thickness of slab.
The 74kN leg loading capacity will
reduce the number of vertical or
horizontal supports required, and
improve productivity.
CUPLOK

has a long history of

successful support to motorway and
trunk road bridges across the world.

GASS

Bridge construction
140kN leg load
High productivity
Integrally braced ledger frames
Adaptable eight-way connection
GASS

is a high productivity aluminium

shoring system suitable for supporting
bridge deck pours. Its high leg load
capacity of 14T maximum SWL makes
it ideal for large, heavily loaded
concrete decks.
GASS

is made up from a unique outer

leg with eight different locations for
connecting the bracing frames.
The strong inner leg, with a massive
1300mm of adjustment, gives the
system superior flexibility in
overcoming different ground terrains
and obstacles.
The ledger frames are locked into the
outer legs by a fast and simple-to-use
wedge action. The stiff ledger frames
eliminate the need for any further
bracing members, making GASS

one
of the fastest shoring systems to
assemble.
DIN approved
GASS

has been officially checked and

approved for load rating by the
Government Structures Office in
Germany to code DIN 4421, which
closely resembles the British
(European) Standard BS EN 12812:
2004.

duty bridge shoring applications.
Standard equipment can be used with a
heavy duty shoring jack to achieve
320kN safe loading. This allows
substantial savings to be made on
traditional shoring applications, utilising
far less equipment.
The MkII Soldiers are of robust hot
dipped galvanised finish, and are simply
bolted together at connections. The
system contains a pivoting head plate
to provide an easy-to-use solution for
sloping soffits.
Refer to wall formwork - pages 14 - 37
and faade retention - pages 92 - 95 for
details of MkII Soldier components.

FAADE RETENTION
MkII Soldiers are arranged to give economical,
tailored solutions suitable for heavy duty
support for a number of applications including
existing buildings.

Economical bracing solutions
With the galvanised steel MkII Soldier it
is possible to make-up three-
dimensional structural frames for use as
faade-retaining shores or heavy duty
dead shores.
For this purpose a multiway connector
and special braces have been
developed. The multiway connector is a
special node point in the frame
structure, on to which a maximum of
eight soldiers can be connected.
A special push/pull bracket has been
developed to enable intermediate
bracing with soldiers to be used at any
arbitrary point on the soldier.
The MkII Soldier, when used as a
compression member, has different
loading characteristics about its two
main axes of inertia due to its
asymmetric shape. The arrangement of
the shore when erected may also
dictate the method of bracing to obtain
the required capacity.
Special details have been developed for
use in faade-retention applications for
connecting the frame to the faade.
Heavy leg loads of up to 500kN can be
supported by the multiway connector
by doubling up the vertical soldier.
A special wedge jack component is
available if the structure has to be
struck under load. These jacks have a
limited height adjustment range of
100mm.

Site staircase
Access and edge protection
Best practice and increasingly stringent
regulations support the move away
from ladders as the means of
temporary access on construction
sites. The site staircase offers a simple,
safe and practical solution.
They are quickly and easily installed on
site, straight from the transport, and
are ready for use in minutes.
They can be set up between 25 and
50 on table forms, in service ducts,
around the perimeter, or elsewhere,
frequently protecting the buildings
stairs from the wear and tear of the
construction process. They fully comply
with EN 12811 (as Temporary Work
Equipment for access between levels
on scaffolding).
Features and benefits
Available in six lengths, which can be
joined and supported to offer a single
run climb height of up to 7.5m.
Double handrail on both sides, which
automatically adjusts to the correct
height.
Whatever the angle of the stairway,
the treads will remain horizontal.
An automatic locking mechanism is
designed to engage once the
stairway is at the correct angle.
A manual locking device is available in
addition to the automatic locking
mechanism. The manual lock is
mounted in the pre-drilled holes on
the opposite side to the automatic
lock. This can be used during long-
term or permanent stairway
installation, or where the ground is
loose or uneven.
Manufactured in steel with a durable
galvani ed finish as standard (painted
and lacquered alternatives are
available).
Treads have a course expanded metal
plate for grip, which also clears
muddy footwear in use.
The bottom of the stringers have
points to prevent slipping.
Allows access for two persons at any
one time.
Being over 750mm wide, the
stairway permits occasional passing
if required. For high passage rates
the stairways can be set up in pairs,
each for one way traffic.
Can be pre-joined to the required
length before being sent to site,
alternatively they can be site
assembled.
The stairways can be folded flat for
ease of transport.
Stairways can be quickly and easily
erected on site by two operatives.
The handrails are simply secured in
place, and the stairway is then lifted
into position using lifting equipment.

Installation
Two operatives can easily install
stairways of up to 9 steps. 12-step
units and above will require lifting
equipment. Units over 21 steps require
a Combibeam for stiffness. Pre-fitting
this before transport speeds up
erection on site.
The top is fixed to the upper level with
one of a range of attachment devices to
prevent movement in use, and the
bottom of the stringers have points to
prevent slipping.
All the stairway units are cross-braced
between stringers for increased
stability, however, it is recommended
that they are erected on a flat, secure
surface, or onto a sole plate if on soft
ground.

SAFESCREEN

Access and edge protection

Screen protection introduced from as
low as the first floor
Optional guided crane climbing or
hydraulic self-climbing
Highly flexible with re-use of modular
components and choice of cladding
panels available
Marketing/advertising opportunities
through use of external face
The SAFESCREEN

perimeter climbing
system is designed to assist in the
construction of high-rise concrete
frames by safeguarding site personnel
against adverse weather conditions and
falls from height. It is a bespoke system
that is used in line with the construction
of concrete slabs however is
independant of formwork and falsework
equipment. Edge protection can be
provided for up to five levels at the
same time.
SAFESCREEN

units offer a minimum

two levels of integrated platforms that
enable access beyond the slab edge
allowing for a range of tasks to be
carried out safely. Units are assembled
with lightweight components and can
be up to a maximum of 4.6m wide by
12m high. The external cladding panels
can be selected from profiled sheeting
(solid, perforated, translucent), mesh or
plywood to suit requirements and offers
developers one of the largest outdoor
media and marketing opportunities.
111
Assembly
SAFESCREEN

units can be pre-

assembled and delivered where there
are working area restrictions on site.
Transport costs are reduced as the
design of the platform bracket allows
for units to be folded which reduces the
stacking depth. Wide units (i.e. over
2.9m) can be assembled with detached
ends such that notice to the Highways
Agency or Police is not required (The
Road Vehicles (Construction and Use)
Regulations 1986). The ends are simply
attached to the preassembled units
upon arrival on site.
Support
Support shoes are fixed to cast-in tie
anchor and anchor cones and bear the
total weight and external loading of
SAFESCREEN

units. Units are

restrained against the structure with
support shoes at all times during use
presenting simpler and safer crane and
hydraulic lifting operations. Support
shoes can be re-used on subsequent
upper floors. Typically, just two levels of
support shoes plus a nominal extra
amount for the lifting sequence need to
be supplied. A wind brace is fitted to
the lower level support shoes which
removes movement in the units.
Climbing
SAFESCREEN

units are moved from

one level to the next in line with the
construction of concrete slabs by either
guided crane climbing (the internal
channel of each unit is secure within
the side clamps of at least two levels of
support shoes at all times during lifting),
or remote hydraulic self climbing
(600mm pitch rams are positioned on
each main support shoe of the unit and
coupled to a 110V, 32amp hydraulic
power pack via fast fix hose
connections). This provides a quick
cycle time of 4.5mins based on a 3.3m
lift height.
Grided crane climbing or hydraulic
self-climbing from as low as the first floor.
