Example:SummaryofAuthorsMainPoints:
The oceans cover approximately 71% of the earths surface that is around 360
million square miles. The ocean inhabits variety of organisms and species which many are
unknown. Researchers have studied only about 10% but no more than 1% of the deep
oceans. Aquatic organisms have different characteristics than terrestrial organisms. For
example, aquatic organisms have to adapt to the water temperature and depths as well as
the availability of oxygen. Unlike in the air, aquatic organisms can endlessly drift in the
current. The oceans have coral reefs and kelp forest which increase this ecosystems
biodiversity. Kelp forest grow within 30 meters of the surface and are dominated by large
brown algae. They provide food and shelter for many organisms which increases the
systems biodiversity. Coral reefs and kelp forest, however, are in danger due to human
activities which harm the ecosystem. Not only do these systems disappear but they also
decreasebiodiversityandfurtherdecreaseanimaldensitywhichcanaffectfisheries.

ThoughtsontheTopic
I found this article to be very interesting because of the threats to the ocean and how
easily it can be damaged. As it was mentioned in the article, the oceans biodiversity is
immense yet the density is not what is expected. Aquatic organism already have to
undergo special adaptations to survive in the oceans constant changes in direction,
availability of sunlight, and oxygen. If we continue the activities that we are currently
engaging on, the oceans biodiversity can be even more damaged to the point where it
might take years to recuperate. The article mentioned that people do not worry about the
changes in the ocean because they are unseen and vast, I believe that this issue can be
handledbyeducatingthepublicoftheoceansandtheorganismsthatliveinit.
