PROJECT #1
Teamwork and Presentation Skills Project
Unique Idea for an Existing Product

Objective:
Students will demonstrate their ability to work effectively as a team while appreciating each others
strengths and demonstrate their ability to problem solve and present their ideas to an audience.

Georgia Performance Standards (GPS):
IT-IDT-1: Demonstrate employability skills required by business and industry (communicate effectively,
demonstrate creativity, model work readiness traits required for success, and apply teamwork skills).
IT-IDT-3: Demonstrate effective professional communication skills (oral, written, and digital) and
practices that enable positive customer relationships.

Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS):
ELACC9-10W4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style
are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
ELACC9-10SL4: Present information, findings, and supporting evidence clearly, concisely, and logically
such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning and the organization, development, substance, and
style are appropriate to purpose, audience, and task.
ELACC9-10SL5: Make strategic use of digital media (e.g., textual, graphical, audio, visual, and
interactive elements) in presentations to enhance understanding of findings, reasoning, and
evidence and to add interest.

Foundation Skills:
CTAE-FS-3 Communications: Learners use various communication skills in expressing and interpreting
information.
CTAE-FS-5 Information Technology Applications: Learners use multiple information technology
devices to access, organize, process, transmit, and communicate information.

Daily Assignments/Skills Prior to Project:
Students completed personality profile questionnaires to discover their personal strengths and
weaknesses.
Students were divided into groups by personality type to share their areas of strength and things
they find difficult when working with groups.
Students were placed into teams with varied personality types and shared their personality
profiles and strengths. Specific tasks were assigned to each member based upon their strengths.
The group made a Flower Power Team Flower. Each student wrote their name on a pedal with
three strengths. Together they selected three group strengths and named their team. The team
name and strengths were written on the center of the flower. The flowers were posted around the
room.
A discussion was led on group norms, maximizing strengths, and working effectively.
Elements of effective teamwork was discussed and the role of the leader explained.
Students wrote and practiced personal introductions and 30-second elevator speeches to develop
skill in introducing themselves and a topic in a presentation. The function of a PowerPoint was
discussed to prevent students from reading the slides to the class.
The problem solving process for the project was discussed with the class.
Students were given a product to begin the project and presented with the structure of the
presentation/commercial.

Teamwork and Presentation Project

Team Directions:
Your team will select a leader, materials manager, presentation coordinator, and recorder.
Remember to consider the strengths of individuals as you select the team members roles.
1. Leader: makes sure all team members participate, guides the planning and decision-
making process, and ensure that the group remains on task to meet the project deadline.
2. Materials Manager: collects resources from the teacher, puts resources away, and
organizes props for the presentation.
3. Presentation Coordinator: Makes sure the group rehearses the presentation, all members
have a speaking role, and the team is prepared to present with visuals.
4. Recorder: Writes down the team ideas, finalizes the script, and makes sure the written
portion of the project is complete.

Assignment:
Your teams materials manager will select a numbered bag from the teachers desk. Inside the bag
is an existing product that you must invent a new use for and create a 1 minute commercial you
will present to the class. The product must include some sort of technology or technical element.
