Parent-teacher interviews Thursday 18/09/14

Notes on things to discuss with each student/parent

4.10pm: Stephanie
- go over SAC with parents and student can you see areas for improvement? What points are you
struggling with? We are allowing you to re-sit the SAC, detail time frame.
-Discuss exam preparation; what you need to study for at home make use of your green book.
- What are your plans for next year?
-Any questions?

5pm: Kenya
You are very passionate about the subject and very creative; your creative ideas would do well in
VCE, are you planning to continue with design tech? You just need to make sure you modify all your
ideas to be able to fit within the design brief. In this case you needed to design something that could
be made from our base pattern.
Do you think you are making the most of your class time? What could you do to get less distracted
by your friends?

4.10pm: Kimberly
-starting to really get into unique ideas and experimenting with techniques she could use to achieve
them. This is excellent experience and I would encourage her to continue experimenting with
different materials and equipment and document all her discoveries (this is good practice for any
VCE folio subject)
-what does she think she could do to be a bit more productive in class. (confidence to attempt things
on her own and having a go, having production plan ready to check, making enough space for
herself)

5.40pm: Maggie
-what areas do you think you need to improve on for next year? Be careful not to jump ahead and
rush things through construction; go slowly to make sure the quality is higher, take better care of
your fabrics; fold them neatly to store them, keep all pieces and patterns well organised.
Great to see increased confidence since the fashion show! How did you find that experience?

6.30pm: Jessica
- showing improvement and great to see you making better use of class time.
-needs to choose fabrics that work with the rest of her groups designs to show she is collaborating.
-needs to go to spotlight to buy fabrics, and buy enough fabric for her chosen pattern, rather than
taking scrap fabrics out of the tub; it is hard to learn about the grain-line, selvedge, folding fabric and
laying a pattern out on fabric when she is trying to find pieces of scraps.
-demonstrate laying pattern pieces appropriately on fabric, pinning them without scrunching the
pattern out of shape and cutting around it smooth cuts.
-demonstrate hand sewing: threading a needle, tying a knot in the end, doing straight stitch and slip-
stitch, tying a slip-knot at the end of the sewing.

5.50: Alicia
- you clearly have talent and passion for the subject, are you wanting to continue it into VCE?
-how well do you think you use class time? Instead of taking everything home to do it, make use of
the class time you are given. Do you think you get distracted by your friends some times in class?
How could you improve this next term?

7.30: Andrea
- You have worked very hard and should be congratulated on a great result
-Discuss exam revision; what to focus on
-Discuss plans for next year.
