what to ALWAYS do when writing an


argument and/or using textual evidence
Do Now: When it comes to the above,
what do you think is an ALWAYS and
what do you think is a NEVER EVER?
NEVER EVER
1. NEVER write I think or I or me or My
opinion
2. NEVER write In the book it states what is
this magical it doing the stating? Stop it!!!!
3. NEVER stick a floating quotation in your
writing--introduce your evidence!!
4. NEVER call an author by his or her first
name! Are you two BFF?? I dont think so.
ALWAYS
1. ALWAYS introduce a quotation. Say
something like: Smith writes, djkfsd (p. 4).
2. ALWAYS explain and contextualize
evidence. After quotes you can write This
means x, y, and z
3. ALWAYS be precise!! No one needs an epic
turned in for a homework assignment
