Washington DC I tinerary

Day 1: Washington DC
Motor Coach, Hotel, Meals and Personal Tour Guide

You will depart from your school in the evening and will arrive Washington DC the next
morning. Breakfast will be at students expense prior to arriving in Washington DC or can be
arranged upon arrival.


Day 2: Washington DC

You will meet your Class Act Personal Tour Guide upon arriving in Washington DC and will
enjoy a city orientation tour. Lunch will be at the National Place Food Court. (Prepaid meal
vouchers provided). After Lunch, you will visit Arlington Cemetery. Selected students from
your group will have the opportunity to participate in a wreath laying ceremony. (Exact time
and date pending confirmation of wreath lying request). You will enjoy exploring the many sites
in the cemetery, including the Kennedy grave sites where President John Kennedy and his family
are buried and also the location of the Eternal Flame. There are a number of places in the
vicinity of the Amphitheater which include: the Tomb of the Unknowns, the Changing of the
Guard, Audie Murphys grave, the Challenger Memorial and the Memorial to the USS Main,
which was the mission to rescue hostages from the Tehran, Iran embassy. The next and final site
you will learn about at Arlington is the Arlington House (Curtis-Lee Mansion). The recently
restored mansion is a memorial to Robert E. Lee. Also, the grave of Pierre Lenfant, the French
engineer who designed the city of Washington is located at the front of the house. After
Arlington, you will enjoy visiting the I wo J ima Memorial and will see the raising of the flag.
You will then continue with your guide and visit the Memorials. Your first stop will be the
Vietnam Veterans Memorial (The Wall). This privately funded memorial has drawn millions
who have come to touch the over 58,000 names of service men and women who died or are
missing in Viet Nam. While at the Wall, you can search for the names of friends or relatives,
make pencil rubbings of names; leave flowers, letters, flags and personal mementos. In the same
area you will also see the Nurses in Viet Nam Memorial. It honors each of the eight military
nurses that were killed in Viet Nam. The statue depicts three women, one of whom is tending to
a wounded soldier. Planted around the statues plaza are eight trees to commemorate each of
the women who died in Vietnam. At this stop is The Lincoln Memorial. Overlooking the
Reflecting Pool, it was patterned on a classic Greek Temple. Inside, inscriptions from his
Gettysburg Address and Second I naugural Address flank the 19-foot marble statue of our 16

President. You will also see The Korean War Veterans Memorial. The triangular field
contains nineteen ground troopers, clad in foul weather ponchos, fully equipped for battle.
Representing those who supported the ground troops are hundreds of faces etched on a polished
granite wall. You will then continue on your tour to visit the World War I I Memorial. It is a
memorial to the more than 14,000,000 American men and women who participated in World
War II. NBC newsman Tom Brokaw called this group Americas Greatest Generation. You
will also visit the National Archives Building, where the Declaration of I ndependence, all four
pages of the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights, (also known as the
Charters of Freedom), are on display. You will also view The Exhibit Hall, which contains
fourteen new document cases. The exhibits in these cases trace the story of the creation of the
Charters and the continuing impact of these fundamental documents on the nation and the world.
Dinner tonight will be at Union Station Food Court. (Prepaid meal vouchers provided). Your
Personal Tour Guide will assist with hotel check in. Private Security Guard checking in at
10:30pm-5:30am. (Lunch and Dinner provided)

Day 3: Washington DC

Breakfast is provided your hotel. This morning will be spent visiting Mount Vernon, the home
of George Washington. Along with a mansion tour, you will also visit The Donald W. Reynolds
Museum and Educational Center and the Ford Orientation Center which include 25 new
theaters and galleries which tell the detailed story of George Washington's life. More than 500
original artifacts, eleven History Channel videos, and immersion theater experiences illuminate
the remarkable story of the first American hero. Lunch will be at the Mount Vernon Food
Court. After Mount Vernon, you will also enjoy a visit to US Capitol Visitors Center and will
meet with your State Representatives. (Meeting with your State Representative is based on their
schedule. They will confirm meeting 2 weeks prior to arrival). Students will be amazed at the
personal tour they will receive and will marvel at the US Capitol views from inside the dome!
You will travel from the Capitol Visitors Center via the underground tunnels to tour the Library
of Congress, then to the Supreme Court! Dinner celebration this evening will be at the Hard
Rock Caf with a predetermined group menu, prepaid. You will also enjoy an illuminated
drive by of the White House, the US Capitol, and all the monuments and then you will return
back to the hotel. Private Security Guard will be checking in at 10:30pm to 5:30am (Breakfast,
Lunch and Dinner provided)


Day 4: Washington DC
Motor Coach, Hotel, Meals and Personal Tour Guide

Breakfast is provided your hotel. This morning, you will enjoy touring the J efferson Memorial
and the FDR Memorial, with a walk along the Tidal Basin, to visit the newest memorial in DC,
the MLK Memorial. You will also enjoy a visit to the Smithsonian I nformation Center, also
known as The Castleand will see the permanent exhibition: Americas Treasure Chest along
with viewing a scale model of the federal city! You will view an educational filmoutlying an
overview of all the Smithsonian Museums located on the Capitol Mall. Staying in the Capitol
Mall area you will enjoy a scavenger hunt at the Smithsonian American National History
Museum where you will find the Star Spangled Banner, the Hope Diamond and the Ruby
Slippers that Dorothy wore in the Wizard of Oz! Next door, you will visit the Smithsonian of
the Natural History Museum where you will see an 8-ton, 14-foot-tall African elephant,
skeletons of the largest I ce Age mammals and a gigantic 90-foot-long Diplodocus Longus
Dinosaur! Lunch will be at Air and Space McDonalds with prepaid meal vouchers. You
continue your tour to enjoy a scavenger hunt at the Smithsonian National Air and Space
Museum. This Museum houses the Wright 1903 Flyer, the Spirit of St. Louis, the Apollo 11
command module Columbia and a lunar rock sample students can touch! You will depart
Washington DC around 6pm, for your drive back to Jacksonville. (Breakfast, Lunch provided)
(Optional Fast food dinner stop at student's expense or dinner prior to departing DC can be
provided.)
