Drama Club Meeting Agenda 10/29/14

I. The Nerd is THIS WEEK, Friday 10/31 and Saturday 11/1 at 7pm in the auditorium. Invite
your friends and family!

II. Drama Club Updates- you NEED to be checking the website aahsdrama.weebly.com and
watching for Remind alerts; Mr. Cossitor will periodically set up special events and
presentations for the drama club, but if there arent enough people signed up, he will
have to cancel them.

III. The Drama Club roster for this year has been posted on the websites announcements
page. If you dont see your name there, it is because you still have not paid your $25 fair
share. As soon as you turn that in, you will be able to participate in club activities/the
spring trip.

IV. NYC Trip- Our spring trip will be Wednesday, May 27
th
. At this point, you may sign up to
see either Lion King or Finding Neverland. If we dont have enough people sign up, we
will have to all go to the same show (whichever more people have signed up for). If you
absolutely will only attend if we go to one show or the other, please note that on the
sign-up sheet. The cost per student will be roughly $200; the exact price will be set
once we see how many students have signed up and Finding Neverland tickets become
available. We will need a downpayment of $50 by Nov. 26
th
. BY TURNING IN THIS
MONEY YOU ARE MAKING A COMMITMENT TO ATTEND THE TRIP; IT IS NON-
REFUNDABLE. To help offset the cost of this, the drama club will be offering several
fundraisers this year. See below.

V. Fundraising- We need your help! The Drama Club has several special expenses this year
in addition to the normal costs of sets, show royalties, costumes, props, etc. We need to
buy an entire set of mics, storage shelving for the set room, and hopefully a black
curtain for the back of the stage. PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO SELL ADS FOR OUR
MUSICAL PROGRAM (see the attached). This is almost pure profit for the club, and you
will get money towards your spring trip fair share. Also, we are offering a Hershey Candy
box (52-count) fundraiser right NOW. If you are interested, have your parents sign the
attached paper and return it HERE TOMORROW AT 3:30 to pick up a box. Based on the
survey we did earlier in the year, we requested 20 total boxes to give out right now, but
we can order more (Let Mr. C know TODAY). You will be credited $12 towards your
spring trip fair share for every box sold. Over the course of the year, we will be offering
several other fundraisers, including Big Mouth Subs Coupons, Savealot Coupon Books,
Worlds Finest Chocolate Boxes, Mariannas Hoagies and others.

VI. ACTs A Christmas Story at the Mishler- The entire Drama Club is invited to attend the
student preview of A Christmas Story at the Mishler on Wed, 11/19 at 7:30. If you are
interested, have your parents sign the attached permission slip and return it to Mr.
Cossitor, the drama club box or bulletin board. We will all meet at 7:15 at the Mishler
entrance and go in to sit together.

VII. Spring Musical- We will be presenting Elton John and Tim Rices Aida for our spring
musical. On the website, you will be able to find a summary, character list, and links to
the songs. Auditions will be held in early December- pay attention to the
announcements and Remind for an exact date. Auditions are open to anyone interested
and will consist of singing, movement, and reading. You may come prepared with a
contemporary broadway or pop/rock song; you will need to provide piano music in the
correct key or an accompaniment track (no voices). NO A CAPELLA SINGING PLEASE.
Anyone without something to sing will be taught a song from the show. Like the play
auditions, the readings will be provided beforehand. Callbacks will be scheduled for the
next day.

VIII. Parent Volunteers for the musical- We will be looking for help from parent volunteers
for the musical. We ESPECIALLY need their help with publicity and getting the word out
about our program to the community. Attached in this packet is a flyer for your parents
to sign and return about Act 126 training. In order for anyone to come and help out in a
school, they need to have this training. We will have an evening parent meeting after
auditions have taken place, either right before or right after the Holiday Break. Watch
for that announcement on Remind and on the website.

PLEASE RETURN ALL FORMS IN THIS PACKET ASAP- THEY ARE ALL DUE
BY FRIDAY, NOV. 7 AT THE LATEST. YOU CAN EITHER TURN THEM IN
TO THE DRAMA CLUB BOX IN THE MAIN OFFICE (JUST ASK THE
SECRETARIES) OR YOU CAN GIVE THEM DIRECTLY TO MR. C AT 3:30
TOMORROW BACK HERE. THE HERSHEY FUNDRAISER FORM MUST BE
TURNED IN BY THE END OF THE WEEK.

financially responsible for any money/tickets that are not turned back in.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU PUT YOUR MONEY IN AN ENVELOPE LABELED WITH YOUR NAME AND
"Hershey Candy Box Fundraiser."
All checks should be made payable to AAHS.

I, ___________________________ acknowledge that I am responsible for selling and turning in money

The AAHS Drama Club advisers would like to start a parent network for assistance with the many
necessities of running a successful Drama Club. One of Mr. Cossitors initiatives for this year is to make
the club more active (with more to offer than just fundraising for our two yearly shows and a New York
City trip in the spring). Already, there has been a presentation at the high school by a talented local
actor and a trip opportunity to the Mishler to see a free student preview of A Christmas Story. As you
might expect, this can be a challenge to coordinate in the midst of show rehearsals. Also, we have a dire
need of fundraising in order to raise enough money to support high-quality productions, in addition to
all these new events that we would like to offer.
If you are interested in becoming involved, state regulations have mandated that you be trained in
detecting child abuse (Act 126 training). This training is valid for 5 years and does carry over from the
Junior High. Please indicate below if you have already received this training and it is still valid for this
year.
When we receive these forms back , Mrs. Dugan and Mr. Cossitor will record your information and use it
to take the next step- (organizing parent meetings, setting up ACT 126 training sessions, etc.). We are
looking to get as much parent involvement as we can, and to hopefully continue to improve
communication about the clubs activities!

Synopsis
Winner of four 2000 TONY Awards, Elton John and Tim
Rice's Aida is an epic tale of love, loyalty and betrayal
chronicling the love triangle between Aida, a Nubian
princess stolen from her country, Amneris, an Egyptian
princess, and Radames, the soldier they both love.
An enslaved Nubian princess, Aida, finds her heart
entangled with Radames, an Egyptian soldier who is
betrothed to the Pharaoh's daughter, Amneris. As their
forbidden love blossoms, Aida is forced to weigh her heart
against the responsibility she faces as leader of her
people. Aida and Radames's love for one another
becomes a shining example of true devotion that
ultimately transcends the vast cultural differences between
their warring nations, heralding a time of unprecedented
peace and prosperity.
With an unforgettable score featuring soaring ballads and
rousing choral numbers, Aida is a modern crowd pleaser
that embraces multicultural casting and exuberant
dancing, staging, and singing for large cast sizes.
