The Prince of Egypt Review

People watch movies for entertainment. However, they may contain inaccuracies, and can
be offensive. One such example would be the movie The Prince of Egypt, about a young
Egyptian prince named Moses. One day he comes across his real sister, a Hebrew slave, and
finds out that hes actually one of them. His mother protected him by placing him into a basket
when he was a baby, and prayed that the river she put the basket in would take him to a land
where he could be happy, and didnt have restrictions. There were multiple unfavorable scenes
that portrayed the Egyptians as oppressors, as well as numerous inaccuracies about Egypt. For
instance, Mosess mother wanted to protect him from the pharaoh, the man who sacrificed the
innocent babies of the Hebrews without a second thought. The Hebrews were also mistreated
because they were the slaves of the Egyptians. They worked every day, carried and lifted heavy
objects, and were hurt if their work was unsatisfactory. The Egyptians would be frowned upon
by the viewers because of this. The Prince of Egypt may be offensive because the Egyptians
were proud of their history, but it was tarnished by this movie. Many people would find the
movie very appealing, but it may have offended the religious opinions of people, especially the
Egyptians because they could be inferred as vile people in the movie.
Some may think that The Prince of Egypt was a breathtaking movie. It also made people
believe in miracles because Moses was able to deliver his people to a promised land. The songs,
soundtracks, characters/actors, and drawings were incredible. There were even humorous scenes
as well. Due to these positive factors, the audience didnt mind that the movie was historically
inaccurate. However, that doesnt mean that all of the viewers enjoyed the songs and soundtracks
or appreciated the movie and its amusing scenes. They could have been offended by the false
information in the movie, too. The Prince of Egypt shows the Egyptians doing horrible actions.
On the other hand, the Egyptians were believed to be wonderful and astounding people in real
life because they were able to live in a stable society, and built massive structures by themselves.
The scene where the sphinx's nose falls off and had a smile painted on it was funny, but it may
have offended the Egyptians because the sphinx was honorable, and didnt deserve to be made
fun of. In addition, the movie glorified Moses when he was able to free his people. However, he
is a villain as well, because his actions punished Ramesses, who lost everything he had at the
end. Ramesses was the pharaoh of Egypt, a figure highly respected like a god. The movie
portrayed him as a victimizer, and the Egyptians definitely wouldnt want their pharaoh or ruler
to be ridiculed like that. The movie conflicts with the actual history of the Egyptians, which
makes it appalling.
The negative scenes and inaccuracies in The Prince of Egypt may have offended
Egyptians. The Hebrews were whipped by the Egyptians if they didnt do their work properly.
There was also a miserable moment when an Egyptian was relentlessly beating up a frail, old
man. This portrays the Egyptians as cruel and cold-hearted people. Therefore, Egyptians would
be offended because they were accused of torturing the Hebrews when it may not have been true.
Furthermore, Mosess father, the pharaoh, ordered the Egyptians to offer the babies of the
Hebrews as sacrifices to the gods, by feeding them to crocodiles. Without consideration, the
pharaoh said to Moses, They were only slaves. Its insulting towards the Egyptians because
they may not have been this brutal. In addition, the inaccuracies in the movie mess up the history
of Egypt. First of all, the sphinx was built in the Old Kingdom, not during the New Kingdom, the
kingdom during Ramessess dynasty, but in the movie, the sphinx was still being built, painted,
and constructed. Secondly, Ramesses and Moses were not believed to be brothers. Thirdly, there
is no sufficient evidence that the Egyptians had slaves. However, the Egyptians were believed to
have built everything by themselves because they respected their religion and wanted to support
it. Finally, Ramesses didnt lose all of his Egyptian workers/soldiers, but in the movie, the wave
of water wiped out all of the Egyptians who accompanied Ramesses to kill the Hebrews. As you
can see, The Prince of Egypt may have insulted and upset Egyptians through the scenes and
inaccuracies in the movie.
In conclusion, The Prince of Egypt was misleading. It may have been offensive, mainly
towards the Egyptians because of an abundance of inaccurate details and objectionable scenes.
Those who are uneducated of Egyptian history may take the movies depiction of Egyptian life
in the past as facts, causing the possibility of them to look down on the Egyptians. This movie
isnt recommended for those who believe in or study Egyptian religion. There is false
information on the Egyptian history. The movie criticizes the Egyptian society by depicting the
pharaoh as a spiteful person. The sphinxs nose falling off, along with a smile painted on its face,
was taken as a joke. The Hebrews seemed to be the victims of the Egyptians, causing the
Egyptians to look like horrible people. The Prince of Egypt is offensive towards the Egyptians in
countless ways because it ridicules what they highly respect, and makes them appear to be
arrogant and spoiled people. Therefore, it isnt recommended for those who share the same
beliefs as the Egyptians.
