The Mindset of the 21
st
Century Learner Learners in the 21
st
Century interact with content, technology and each other
in vastly diferent ways than they did a decade ago. Understanding the mindset of the students is a prerequisite for
efectve teaching of concepts and training of 21
st
century skills necessary for them to be ready in a career and college.

for personal productvity and efectve technology implementaton in classrooms. Mobile tech-
nologies and BYOD programs are areas of partcular interest for her. For complete informaton

SESSIONS & SPEAKERS
Getng Past the Glitz. Why Use Mobile Devices to Create Content? When the discussion turns to classroom use of tab-
lets and other mobile devices, it nearly always focuses on use of apps and web-based tools where students are consum-
ers of content. This keynote explores use of mobile technologies that incorporate use of higher order thinking skills
through use of apps and web-based tools that support content creaton. Using Blooms Digital Taxonomy as a readily
accessible framework, atendees are invited to consider strategies for identfying, selectng, and employing digital tools
that support challenging and engaging actvites for students in a variety of setngs. Whether your school has adopted
BYOD, 1:1 or something in between, you will fnd tools and strategies that you can implement immediately to take use
of mobile technologies to more creatve levels.

Designing Efectve, Technology-Supported Instructonal Actvites Efectve technology integraton requires more than
access to up-to-date hardware and a robust infrastructure. Educators must understand and apply the complex interrela-
tonships of three components of knowledgetechnology, pedagogy, and content when planning technology-
supported actvites. They must also be cognizant of their own levels of technology use. This keynote focuses on re-
search-based models, TPACK and SAMR, and provides practcal suggestons educators can use right away to design
efectve, technology-supported instructonal actvites that will enhance classroom learning.

Creatng Content with Mobile Devices: Five Photo Stories and One Minute Videos Use of photography in the classroom
is common practce. For decades, teachers have employed photos for a variety of instructonal purposes. With the ad-
vent of inexpensive point-and-click digital cameras its practcal for even our youngest students to create images of their
own. And now that most tablet devices sport at least one camera, teachers and students ofen have access to multple
digital cameras at one tme, signifcantly increasing the ease of implementaton of complex instructonal actvites that
rely on the use of photography. The focus of this seminar is on two simple, yet efectve instructonal strategies using
stll photography and video for K-12 cross-curricular lessons. This bring-your-own device hands-on seminar is appropri-
ate for smartphones and tablets.

Raise the Bar for Student Presentatons Using Web-based Tools and Apps We ofen ask students to demonstrate learn-
ing through academic events or culminatng projects. Oral presentatons are frequently incorporated into these actvi-
tes. Mobile devices and more traditonal technologies ofer many ways for students to work independently or collabo-
ratvely to share informaton in creatve ways. Atend this seminar to review a sampling of web-based tools and apps
that are appropriate for use by students in grades K-12. This bring-your-own device hands-on seminar is most appropri-
ate for laptops and tablets.

Increase Students Speaking and Listening Skills Using Podcastng In societes where visual media regularly supersedes
audio media, students have fewer opportunites to learn how to listen and speak well. But much communicatonboth
formal and informalrelies on the ability to speak and to listen. Fortunately, tablet devices and smartphones are tools
both teachers and students can use to address these two important skills. During this workshop we will focus on tools
that can be leveraged to enhance students ability to speak and listen well. This bring-your-own device hands-on work-
shop is most appropriate for smartphones and tablets.
