Update November 2014

Dear Parents:
You will be receiving the Progress
Report Card soon. It will give you an
indication how your child is
progressing in different subjects. All
six learning skills (responsibility,
independent work, self-regulation,
organization, collaboration, initiative)
will be reported. Please, return the
signed portion of the report card and
the envelope, which is going to be
used again for the terms report cards.
We look forward to see you on the
Student-Led conferences.
Grade 4 French Immersion classes
will also be hoisting the assembly this
month (4FB on Nov 7 and 4FA on Nov
21). The students are excited and
preparing for them. We hope you will
be able to come and watch them.
Ms Opanasyuk and Mr. Wong
Languages
Our next reading strategy will be
summarizing (Strategy 1: Someone,
Wanted, But, So, Then, Strategy 2:
Who, What, When, Why, Where and
How). We will be writing persuasive
paragraphs to convince someone to
our point of view and organizing our
writing with multiple paragraphs to
separate our ideas.
In French, we will also be reinforcing
the use of past tense in conversation
and writing. We were unable to do the
numbers, so we will be doing them
this month. We have started
procedure writing and will continue
doing so.
Mathematics
We are just wrapping up our graphing
unit and will be starting our place
value unit next. It will explore numbers
to 10 000, read and print words to
1000, rounding numbers, adding and
subtracting 4-digit numbers, learning
our times tables to 9x9 and 819,
multiplying 2-digit numbers by a
1-digit number and using estimation.

EMPOWERMENT PROJECT
Thank you so much to all of our Grade
4 families for your support in our
Halloween for Hunger Food Drive. We
have filled 4 barrels with food for the
Mississauga food bank. Our goal was
to collect 1000 items and we are still
tallying the final results. We will
continue to accept food until
November 7th for any families that
would like to clear out their
cupboards! Stay tuned for our final
tally and if we met our goal!
