Expert Performance

This particular portfolio example offers a great over

view of the many components that contribute to an
expert portfolio. The portfolio offers a comprehensive
table of contents and an individual reflection for each
written piece that is included in the compilation.
The reflection for each piece contained within the
portfolio provides an in depth approach to making a
connection between the contents of the portfolio and
the learning that has occurred through its creation. This
particular portfolio goes into depth surrounding the
writing process from start to finish including what went
in to creating outlines, rough drafts and polished work
(Sabir, 2009). By making a connection between the
work itself and the learning that has occurred this
student has made a real world connection.

Real World Connection

This document offers several examples of student work

in terms of a written performance assessment. Each
example chosen offers a strong thesis and an opinion
that is backed by clear evidence cited and provided by
the student. Each of these pieces exhibits creativity and
provides an example of a well worded piece that
closely follows the designated prompt.
Each piece of student work found within this document
offers an example of individuals that have taken the
time to create a valid argument in favor of a chosen
vacation through the exploration of real world
dilemmas such as cost versus value. Each example of
work identifies an overall cost for each vacation and
weighs the cost versus what is being received for that
dollar amount showing a real world connection
(Louisiana Believes, 2014).

This document offers a variety of examples of work

created by kindergarteners through to twelfth grade.
Each piece is representative of an expert performance
based on the age and expected skill level for each class
group. The tenth grade sample specifically can be used
as an example of the level of writing expected to
complete the chosen performance assessment. The
example piece shows a clear cohesive thought process
while utilizing supporting evidence with proper in text
citations. The ideas shared throughout this piece are
thoughtful and show an in depth understanding of the
topic being portrayed.

VISION

Real World Connection

The student makes clear worldly connections through

the use of a topic relevant to current events- the
attainment of a school bond. This student provides
relevant examples surrounding the benefits of the bond
through the use of tangible evidence. The student also
explores the opposing argument in terms of finances
and economical repercussions while maintaining a clear
position (Edweek.org, n.d.)

Expert Performance

This document also spans a variety of pieces of student

work ranging from kindergarten to twelfth graders.
The high school piece titled "A Perfect Modern
Classic" is an excellent example of an expert paper
written to provide an analysis (in this case an analysis
of the modern day film version of Romeo and Juliet)
(Peha, n.d., p 68). This student piece does an excellent
job in analyzing the various components that contribute
to a successful modern day Romeo and Juliet. Themes
and characters are recognized in detail and a strong
comparison is made to the original story versus the
modern day version.
This student identifies the challenges faced by the
director that set out to create a modern day Romeo and
Juliet by acknowledging a change in times and a
difficult to captivate audience. The student is able to
identify the ways in which the film creators have
overcome the obvious obstacles of creating a
Shakespearian film.
