To Whom It May Concern:

I have had the privilege of working with Lauren for the past four years as her
lacrosse coach at Penn State University. Over the course of those four years I have
had the joy of watching Lauren develop into an incredible person. We knew she was
special the moment she stepped onto the field but what we didnt know was how
greatly she was going to impact our program. Lauren would make an outstanding
candidate for the teaching position because she exemplifies hard work, the desire to
learn, and leadership.
A lot of people can be described by being hard working, but few are successful at the
same time. Lauren Purvis was a two-sport standout student-athlete during her four
years at Penn State University. As a four-year starter on the nationally ranked field
hockey team, Lauren garnered numerous awards. In 2011 she was a second team
All Big Ten member as well as a NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association)
second team All Region. Lauren became a consistent starter for lacrosse in her
senior year, having a break out season. She set numerous career records and her
hard work paid off when she was named the ALC (American Lacrosse Conference)
Defensive Player of the Year, All ALC First Team, IWLCA (Intercollegiate Womens
Lacrosse Coaches Association) All West Region First Team, and IWLCA Second Team
All American. Thanks to Laurens consistent hard work over four years both Penn
State Field Hockey and Womens Lacrosse remain nationally ranked.
There is a lot that can be said for Lauren earning all of those accolades during her
athletic tenure at Penn State, but what is most impressive is her ability to be equally
as successful in the classroom. Lauren was a four-time member of the NFHCA
National Academic Squad as well as a three-time member of the ALC All Academic
Honor Roll (2014 squad has not been named yet). Over Laurens four years at Penn
State she amassed a cumulative GPA of 3.63. While never having a real off-season
due to her commitment to both field hockey and lacrosse Lauren managed to earn
over a 3.4 GPA each semester. Laurens hard work earned her many accolades on
the field but it was her work in the classroom that made her a true student-athlete.
Leadership is something that comes easily to Lauren. Not only is she a vocal leader
but her ability to lead by example is also superior to most. Lauren will undoubtedly
get any task that is asked of her completed and will always do it with a smile on her
face. No challenge or task is out of her reach. Whether she is working with a small
group or a team of 34 members she is able to command the room by earning the
respect of those around her.
Lauren would make a great addition to your program and any of those students
would be lucky to call her their teacher.
Sincerely,
Amy L. Altig
