Critical Thinking/Reflection

The rules I started with this semester worked out quite well as I observed students following the
rules on a regular basis. If I were to get a position teaching a higher grade level I feel that I would have
to adjust the rules in order to meet the needs of older students. The management plan that I started with
this semester consisting of the 'Class Dojo' point system has turned out to be more time consuming than
I had expected however, very meaningful. I learned that my point system was extremely motivating for
students and that students responded very well to my management system but, having the Ipad on me at
all times and giving points throughout the day was very difficult. I have decided that when in my own
classroom I will create a paper chart that will be easier to record data on, then after school I will be able
to transfer the points to the program online.
I did not find Class Dojo' to be really negative besides the time component. The most positive
aspect that blew me out of the water was the parent component. The parent communication component
of 'Class Dojo' is unbelievably convenient. There is an instant message option that makes
communication with parents quick and familiar for each of them. Parents were also able to see their
childs behaviors in school without having to rely on information being brought home from their child.
I have used the parent component for more positive than negative. One example of me using the parent
component was on a day where one student was particularly kind and welcoming to a student that was
being teased, I had messaged his mother informing her of his acts of kindness and she was thrilled. His
mother replied swiftly thanking me for letting her know about the great things going on with her son in
school. Overall I feel I have a great start in place for rules and management but I know everyone has
room to improve.
