Driving is a privilege and not a right.


This privilege comes with many
responsibilities.

Rights

The Bill of Rights are the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution. They
were introduced as a series of amendments in 1789 in the First United States Congress
by James Madison. Ten of the amendments were ratified and became the Bill of Rights
in 1791. These amendments limit the powers of the federal government, protecting the
rights of all citizens, residents and visitors on United States territory. Among the
enumerated rights these amendments guarantee are: the freedoms of speech, press, and
religion; the right to keep and bear arms; the freedom of assembly; the freedom to
petition; and the rights to be free of unreasonable search and seizure; cruel and unusual
punishment; and compelled self-incrimination. The Bill of Rights also restricts
Congress' power by prohibiting it from making any law respecting establishment of
religion and by prohibiting the federal government from depriving any person of life,
liberty, or property without due process of law. In criminal cases, it requires indictment
by grand jury for any capital or "infamous crime," guarantees a speedy public trial with
an impartial and local jury, and prohibits double jeopardy. In addition, the Bill of Rights
states that "the enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed
to deny or disparage others retained by the people,"[1] and reserves all powers not
granted to the federal government to the citizenry or states.

Rules of the Game


The object is to get as high up the chain as possible in a
given amount of time.
Everyone starts as a Child. Then you move up to become
a Teenager, Adult, and then finally an Experienced
Driver.
You play Rock, Paper, Scissors with someone at your
level on the chain (ex: if you are a Child, you play a
Child). Winners move up the chain and losers move
down the chain.

Vehicle Safety and Emissions


Inspection
Your vehicle must have a safety inspection
performed at an authorized inspection station
every 12 months.
Vehicles may be inspected up to 90 days before
their inspection expiration date. This allows extra
time for the following year.
Drivers are required to maintain their car in a safe
condition. If not, you could be pulled over and be
expected to fix it within 5 days or risk a citation.

The emissions inspection program covers all


gasoline-powered, model year 1975 or newer cars,
vans and light-duty trucks weighing 9,000 pounds
or less.
You must pass your emissions inspection before
you can complete your safety inspection.

more information about the emissions program,

Adjust your seat to your height and make
sure you can reach the pedals and other

Fasten your Seat Belt


The seat belt should be worn low and snug on the
hips and tight across the shoulder.
In the front seats, you should be moved as far back
as is practical.
Front seat passengers are required by law to wear
seat belts.
If under the age of 18 you may only carry as many
passengers as seat belts.
Children 12 and under should ride buckled up in
the rear seat.

Adjusting the Rearview and Side


Mirrors
They are adjusted differently for each driver.
Set your mirrors after you adjust your seat.
Mirrors in your vehicle are used to get rid of your
blind spots.
This is important so that you can see smaller
vehicles, motorcycles, and pedestrians that are
walking behind your vehicle.

The BGE side mirror setting (15 degrees to outside)
will allow for side view in addition to the rear view.

The Vampire Rule


Check the outside mirror. If you cant see
the other persons face in that mirror, then
they probably cant see you.

Adjust Ventilation
You should adjust vents, windows, and the
air conditioner so there is a constant supply
of fresh air in your vehicle.
This helps you stay alert and reduces the
effects of exhaust gas that may get into your
vehicle.

If properly adjusted,
head restraints can
prevent or reduce the
severity of neck
injuries in a crash.

Wear Prescription
Glasses/Contact Lenses
If you wear glasses or contacts regularly,
then you should always wear them while
driving.
Do not wear sunglasses or tinted contact
lenses at night as they reduce available light
and make it harder to see.

Using the Clutch


Hold the clutch down all the way with your
gear shift in neutral to start the vehicle.
Engage the clutch when you shift gears.
Do not ride with your foot resting on the
clutch.
Do not coast to a stop with your clutch
pedal depressed unnecessarily.

Steering Wheel Lock


Never turn your vehicles ignition to lock
position while it is still in motion.
This will cause your steering to lock if you
turn the wheel and you will lose control of
your vehicle.
