THE INFLUENCE OF BORAX TOWARD OF DUODENUM

HISTOPATHOLOGY DESCRIPTION OF MALE MICE (Rattus Novergicus
L.) WISTAR STRAIN
ABSTRACT
Background: The purpose of giving preservatives is to obstruct the failure of food so it has
longer storability, the preservatives are commonly used but have danger effect for health is
Borax. The abuse of borax is often found in the processing of food. The government has been
released the regulation of disallowance of using borax as the contingent food at the health
ministers regulation No.722/Menkes/Per/IX/1998 about the food additives.
Objective: The aim of this research is to prove the impact of peroral borax graded doses
toward the change of duodenum histopathology description of male mice Wistar furrow.
Method: The laboratory experimental research with post test only control group design,
consists of 25 male mice Wistar furrow as the sample which have been fulfilled the criteria of
inclusion and exclusion, and have been adapted during 7 days. After adaptation term, the
male mice divided into simple random sampling come out 5 groups. K is a control group
which has not given borax perorally. P1 is given peroral borax 0,25 ml/day, P2 is given
peroral borax 0,5 ml/day, P3 is given peroral borax 1 ml/day, P4 is given peroral borax 2
ml/day. After 13 days all the samples are taken the duodenum organ to do the histopathology
checking. The data is described in the form of table, picture and computer program.
Result: The highest mean of the amount of duodenum mucosal epithelial damage came from
P4 group. The kruskal-Wallis test found the significant difference (p=0.001). Post Man
Whitney Test found significant differences in K-P1 (p=0.050), K-P2 (p=0.004), K-P3
(p=0.004), K-P4 (p=0.004). whereas on P2-P3 (p=1.000), P2-P4 (p=0.072), P3- P4
(p=0.072) there was no significant different found.
Conclusion: Giving the peroral borax graded doses during 13 days caused the changes of
duodenum histopathology of male mice Wistar furrow. The damage that occurred is in the
form of erosion < 50% , erosi > 50 % and completed with hyperplasia Goblet cells.
Key Words: Borax graded doses, duodenum histopathology description.
