This module introduces the basic concepts of management


principles and practices and gives an introduction to the
healthcare service industry. It will also introduce the
management concepts such as Systems management and
Management by Objective which are important to modern
hospital administrators. There will be a great focus on the
description on the hospital and its services with a special
emphasis on Hospital Administration. Introduction to the basic
concepts, roles of Hospital Administration will allow the
administrator to look in to the future challenges and the
opportunities in the sector in global and local context.
Futhermore, this module will
cover the organizational
behaviour and its importance to effective Hospital
administration. Supervision, leadership, division of labour and
motivation which are key concepts and tools needed for the
modern hospital manager will be described here. More
importanlty it will also describe how emotional intelligence and
communication will support to build an effective organizational
culture .

Human Resource &

This is a comprehensive Human Resource management


module designed for the Executive MSc. in Health
Administration programme with a view to introduce to
students different processes involved in Human Resource
management and is intended to give the trainees knowledge of
Human Resource Management (HRM) and health and hospital
industrial relations, which will be useful from a career point of
view.

Human Resources & planning, Human Resource Procedures,
MR Monitoring process, Effective HR Management, Training &

This module brings an insight to trainees to the economic


aspect of health planning of the nation. In the hospital setting,
the course helps the trainees to understand the sources of
funds and its effective utilization to achieve a better quality of
hospital services within a reasonable cost.
Further this module introduces the framework of financial
Management in the healthcare industry which describes the
process, methods and procedures of budgeting, control of and
expenditure of finances.

This unit is basically based on setting directions, priorities and


selecting interventions, issues in implementing plans, The role
of logic models in program planning, developing logic models,
Using logic models, estimating resource requirements and
managing service quality and evaluating health plans.

Health Policy and

This is a comprehensive module designed for the Executive


MSc. in Health Administration program with a view to introduce
students to poublic policy formulation and its importance,
health policy and its administrative framework, services and
roles of private and government healthcare organizations, role
of the international organizations in healthcare administration
and support. Introduction to different health systems in the
world and advantages and disadvantages of the respective
systems and measurement of the health system performance.
This module will also introduce the Hospital/ Health
Administrator to the knowledge and skill to deal with various
organizations involved in healthcare and to work within the
stipulated administrative frame of the respective countries with
a view to making him a global health administrator.

Management of
Hospital Planning &

This comprehensive module was designed with a view to


introduce to students, project management in healthcare
service setting. This will cover the areas of the feasibility study

development of the medical service plan by the hospital
administrator.
Description of the project development process will give an
insight to the design phase, standards and special requirements
for the units of the hospital. Importance of the coordination
process done by the hospital administrator in these projects

administrator in his operational work as well.
This module will give an opportunity to Hospital Administrators

Risk Management

This comprehensive module was designed with a view to


introduce students to Quality Assurance in healthcare service
setting. This will cover the areas of the quality concepts and
models with special reference in healthcare setting. Quality
initiatives and quality accreditation process will be useful for
todays Hospital Administrators. Special focus will be on the
healthcare safety and risk mangement and introduce the
candidates to organize and implement programs of risk
management as a part of QA programs in healthcare services.
New dimension in healthcare quality will be introduced with
special emphasis on service and technical quality dimensions.
This module will also cover the planning and implementation of
QA programs in healthcare settings which will be a valuable skill

Legal and Ethical


Aspects of Healthcare

This module introduces the framework of law and regulations


pertaining to the labour law and other related regulations in
the healthcare industry. Introduction to ethical priciples in
healthcare and medicolegel issues are also emphasised and
given an overview to patients rights in obtainging healthcare
services. Special emphasis has been given to the patients rights
and open disclosure which are becoming greater challenges to
hospital administrators in managing hospitals. Comprehensive
knowledge will be given on medico legal issues, negligence and
malpractice in the hospital setting.
The module has developed in such a way that non medical
administrators could get an insight to the medico legal, ethical

and regulatory processes in the healthcare setting.

Clinical & supportive
Services

This module consists of 3 parts including;


Part 1- Hospital Support services
Part 2- Operational Management of Clinical Services
Part 3- Material and Equipment management
This module brings an insight to the management of Support
services of the healthcare services setting with a view to
present important mangement tools to todays Hospital
Administrator. This will cover the concepts of operational
management of support services and its components with
special emphasis on facility management. Introduction to
equipment management and public realtions are important
components of this module.

Management of Aged
care service

This interdisciplinary course is designed to introduce the


student to the field of gerontology (the study of aging). The
aging person is viewed in a holistic manner. Topics to be
included are demography of aging, social and economic
characteristics of aging, biological, psychological and social
theories of aging, biomedical aspects of aging and selected
issues in health and aging.

MGT 704

Dissertation

Health research is a systematic process of inquiry that uses


disciplined methods to answer questions and solve problems in
clinical or administrative, behavioral and educational areas. This
introductory 6-credit health research course will provide basic
knowledge to students on how to formulate and develop
research in clinical or non-clinical settings to solve evidence
based problems.
The experience gained in research will help a health research
student practice critical thinking through the analysis of health
research results. Students will be able to develop their research
designs, collect data, analyze and interpret data using a
software program. Research report writing skill, necessary for
health research, will be strengthened.
Research will be guided by an appointed supervisor during the
entire period of research and report writing.
