Executive Summary
Recycling is an important part of our attempt to keep our planet environmentally sustainable in
order to provide a future for our children and grandchildren. Our group has identified an area in
which UT Dallas seems to be lacking in our recycling effort, and that area is the recycling of
paper. We have teamed up with The Green People, an environmental student organization on the
UT Dallas campus, and hope to eradicate the problem.
Our plan is to place four corrugated paper recycling bins in strategically-chosen, high-traffic
areas of the Naveen Jindal School of Management building. All four of these bins will cost a
mere $79, plus shipping charges. Any future bin purchases will be equally reasonable. The
Facilities Management Department at the university has agreed to gather and recycle the paper
collected in these bins, at no additional charge. They will keep the proceeds to help defray the
cost of labor. We would be proud to identify you, as our sponsor, by displaying additional
signage about you and your company to the bins.
This project is set to begin on May 5, 2014. On May 17, 2014, our group will step down and The
Green People campus organization will be offered the opportunity to take over the control of this
recycling project indefinitely.
This environmental initiative is an important one, not only for the University of Texas at Dallas
but for the entire planet. We hope youll be excited as to be a part of it as we are!

The Problem
Throughout the recent decade, the world has been making a greater effort at achieving
environmental stability for our planet. Ranging from solar technology to at-home recycling, there
are a wide variety of green initiatives in which to participate. Unfortunately, while
organizations and facilities are readily available for the recycling of glass and plastics, there are
not a wide variety of places to recycle one of todays largest waste products: paper.
Even with the level of current technological advances, paper is still abundant and is used in large
quantities in everyday life. On the University of Texas at Dallas campus, there is almost no
recycling of paper, despite the obvious need. Its evident that this waste isnt a product of lack of
action, but more a lack of awareness as to how large an issue the waste of paper has become. We
aim to change this.

The Solution
In cooperation with The Green People, which is an environmentally-motivated student
organization on campus, wed like to bring awareness and a plan of action. We plan to institute a
program to collect and recycle white paper throughout the Naveen Jindal School of Management
building on the University of Texas at Dallas campus in Richardson, Texas. By making the
recycling process easily available to students and faculty, this will hopefully encourage the
development of a habit to continue paper recycling on a permanent basis.

The Details
Who?
We are collaborating with the student organization, The Green People, and with the Facilities
Management Department at the university. You, as our sponsor, will have minimal cost and
responsibility incurred.

What?
Our aim is to encourage students and faculty to recycle their
unwanted pages and decrease unneeded waste throughout the building.
By supplying bright, colorful recycling bins and arranging for the bins
to be collected and the paper to be recycled, we hope to both decrease
the amount of paper in our landfills and also raise awareness of this
growing problem. We will station four corrugated recycling bins in
high volume areas throughout the Naveen Jindal School of
Management building. The corrugated bins will be purchased
beforehand, eliminating the expense for the student organization.

When?
Beginning the week of May 5, 2014, the recycling bins will be positioned at strategic positions.
On May 17, 2014 our participation with the project will end; The Green People student
organization will be given the opportunity to keep the bins and continue the project indefinitely.

Where?
Inside the Naveen Jindal School of Management, we will place recycling containers in four hightraffic locations:
1. The main entrance at the Southwest end of the building
2. The back entrance at the Northwest end of the building.
3. Near the front entrance at the Southeast end of the building
4. On the second floor, across from Room 2.117

How Much?
The four corrugated recycling bins will be purchased from Recyclingbin.com. They are bright
green and highly visible, as well as being clearly marked for paper recycling purposes. They are
recycled, recyclable and eco-friendly. The bins are made in the USA and shipped directly from
the manufacturer, saving us additional cost and protecting the environment from added pollution.
Four of these bins will cost our sponsor $79 plus shipping charges. We will buy the bins as
needed, and any future purchases will be similarly low-cost. The Facilities Management
Department at UT Dallas has agreed to supply labor to remove and recycle the paper collected in
the bins when necessary, at no expense to our organization. They will keep the proceeds from the
paper they recycle to help defray the cost of the labor needed. Any additional signage identifying
you as our sponsor should be supplied and paid for by your company.

Summary
We are collaborating with the Green People and a waste collector as our sponsor to increase
recycling and awareness to reduce unneeded wastes in the school. We will have four paper
specific bins placed in four locations in the Naveen Jindal School of Management.
