GRADE LEVEL: 4th grade

PREVIOUSLY LEARNED SKILLS: Passing (bumping), underhand throwing, spatial awareness,
cooperative learning
FACILITIES: Black Top/ Grass Area/ Main Gym

5 (different colored) polyspots Numbered 1-5 note cards taped to polyspots 7 Volleyballs 36
cones (various colors) 1 whistle

Systematic Observation 1: SOFIT. There was 6.5 minutes of MVPA during the lesson. That is a
a slight improvement over last weeks MVPA. Activity levels continue then to be higher than the
earlier weeks. Two strategies that can help facilitate the trend is to have quicker transitions into
activities. Another would be to make sure grouping is handled better, in terms of knowing who
will not want to work together and causing problems.
Systematic Observation 2:Idiosyncrasies. There was not many used during this lesson. The
words alright was used 10 times and the words You guys was only used three times during
the observed activity. This continues to be an area of strength since the beginning, so there is not

much to work on. Two strategies that can be used to help not use any at all is just to be aware
what words are being used and to make sure to address them all with words like everyone etc.
However this is not really an issue due to the low numbers.
Systematic Observation 3: Feedback. A lot of skill feedback was given during this lesson. A
few behavioral feedback occurred, which is always to be expected. Two strategies that could be
used is to give more positive feedback overall as a class then to the group, if they are performing
correctly( which is not always the case). Another could be when giving feedback to skill, make
sure the attention of the class is on you so you do not need to repeat it for others.
11-6-2014
GRADE LEVEL: 4th grade
CLASS SIZE: 20 Students
LESSON LENGTH: 30 Minutes
UNIT: Volleyball
LESSON #: 4 of 4
LESSON FOCUS: Passing (bumping) and Setting incorporation
PREVIOUSLY LEARNED SKILLS: Passing (bumping), underhand throwing, spatial awareness,
cooperative learning
FACILITIES: Black Top/ Grass Area/ Main Gym
EQUIPMENT:5 (different colored) polyspots 10 Volleyballs 1 whistle
Systematic Observation 1: Time analysis. This lesson had 11.75 minutes of activity time.
Again that is yet another major improvement over the past weeks. Management time was 12.75
minutes. That might be the highest/lowest times yet. Two strategies that can be used is to make
sure the transitions between activities have less disruption then they continue to have. That will
make activity time go up as well as using less time on management. Maybe have the next lesson
instant activity be related to the lesson.
Systematic Observation 2: Teacher movement. Xiomara was active in moving around. Mostly

in the same area space but she was engaged in the activities with the students and was playing in
with them. Two strategies to improve this would be to make sure to get to play with more
students that are around. Also, making sure to still do a round or two around the perimeter.
