THUMBS UP

A big round of
applause goes to Josh
and Trevor for
volunteering to read
information about the
Marines in the front of
our entire school and
Veterans Day guests!!

BUCKET
FILLERS
I am proud to
announce that Kyle
and Isaac have
reached 50 bucket
fillers!! They have
demonstrated 50 acts
of kindness beyond
the expected behaviors
of students.
Congratulations to
these outstanding
students!

AR STARS
Congratulations to:
- 5 points
-Adam 10 points
-Ryley 20 points
I am impressed with
all of the reading
students are doing in
class!

Reading
We completed our
work with
contextual clues in
nonfiction text this
week. Students
learned how to use
clues in the text to
understand words
they do not know.

They learned that the text often

times gives us an antonym,
synonym, example, or the meaning
of the word. Students also learned
that a picture can help us understand
the meaning of difficult words in
text.
Next week, we will begin our unit of
Asks and answers questions using
historical fiction or nonfiction text.

Writing

Spelling
Students participate in several activities to
learn the spelling pattern each week. Please
help your third grader study these patterns
in the evening as well.

Handwriting
Students are currently learning to write
lower case letters in cursive!

Students completed an informative

paragraph this week giving details of
a variety of tongues from the
nonfiction text titled Animal
Tongues we read in class. Students
had to listen to the text and write out
a five sentence paragraph with the
information they heard about
tongues. We are currently focusing
on writing a variety of topics and
conclusions to make the writing
piece more interesting.

Science

Math

Brooklyn says have your student

tell you about our science
experiment.

We worked on the associative and

distributive properties of
multiplication. Students also solved
multiplication number sentences
with a variable in the equation! For
example:
2 x b = 6 or 4 x 5 = c
I am truly impressed with the hard
work students displayed this week.
Next week, we will conclude our
multiplication unit.

Math Facts
We are continuously working with
math facts throughout the week with
partner, group, and technology
practice. Please support your third
grader by helping them practice on a
daily basis.

We worked with the scientific method of

experimentation this week. Students
observed an egg floating in salt water and
sinking on fresh water. We also did a lot of
work with graphing this week.

Planners
Please check your childs planner on a daily
basis and sign the bottom of the current
page. The planner is a wonderful way for us
to communicate.

Please Help!
We are in need of extra games for indoor
recess. We would gladly appreciate any used
board games your child is no longer enjoying!
Please feel free to contact me with
any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Mrs. Scavo
