To Whom Tt May Concern:
It was a pleasure to work with Ms. Allie Calderon earlier this summer. Ms. Calderon
worked alongside students and camp directors at the Lake Michigan Writing Project’s
Laker Writers’ Camp on the campus of Grand Valley State University during Summer
2013. The writing camp consisted of students in grades 7-12 from a variety of
backgrounds.
In this experience, Ms. Calderon helped in the planning process for writing camp,
observing and contributing to lesson planning. During the week of eamp, Ms, Calderon
led whole-group lessons on writing using technology and her own writing process to
model what successful writers do. She also led small group writing activities, such as
peer response, peer read-arounds, and brainstorming sessions. Ms. Calderon also engaged
in one-to-one writing conferences with students, In all of these environments, Ms.
Calderon was professional and engaging, Students saw her as another teacher-leader in
the classroom; and as a regular classroom teacher, I saw Ms. Calderon as a contributing,
colleague at writing camp.
Thave no hesitation in stating that Ms. Calderon will be a successful teacher when it
comes time for her to have ier own classroom. Teaching seems to come naturally to Ms.
Calderon, have no doubt she will be an asset to any teaching environment in the future.
Sincerely,
