Unit Title: Solving Multi-Step Equations

Name: Reina Galvez

Content Area: Mathematics

Grade Level: 7

CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s):

7. EE Expressions and Equations
3. Solve multi-step real-life and mathematical problems posed with positive and negative rational numbers in any form (whole numbers, fractions, and
decimals), using tools strategically. Apply properties of operations to calculate with numbers in any form; convert between forms as appropriate; and assess the
reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies.
Big Ideas:
The BIG IDEA we want to focus on in this unit is how to solve multi-step equations.
Unit Goals and Objectives:
Our Unit Goal is to be able to solve multi-step equations involving rational numbers.
Our Unit Objective is to be able to construct multi-step equations to solve real life problems involving rational numbers from word problems.
Students will learn how to compute equations using rational numbers. Students will be able to solve multi-step equations. Students will be able to confidently
construct a multi-step equation from a word problem.
Unit Summary:
In this unit we will explore rational numbers and how they pertain to real life problems. We will discover ways to solve multi-step problems and how to
construct these equations from word problems. At the end of the unit, students will be asked to complete a small project regarding an actual problem a company
or family may face and will be asked to construct a multi-step equation, then solve for the variable.
