US/Canada

Eureka is surrounded mostly by tundra, oceans, and shrublands with


highs and lows of -42 and 42 degrees.
Miami, Florida, however, has a more tropical climate surrounded by
ocean and marshes and temperatures here range from 60 to 90 degrees.

Latin America/Carribean
Patagonia in Chile which has a very dry and cold climate . On the contrary,
Kingston, Jamaica has a tropical climate similar to Miamis with temperatures
ranging from 74 to 90 degress.
Europe
In Europe, contrasting regions such as Ibiza in Spain, and Oslo in Norway, show
the opposite ends of the climate spectrum. Oslo has a more cold and humid
setting with temperatures from 14 to 69 degrees. The island of Ibiza is warmer
and semi-arid with temperatures from 47 to 86 degrees.

Northern Eurasia
Oymyakon, Russia
With an extreme subarctic climate, Oymyakon is covered in permafrost
with temperatures of 50 degrees and winter lows of negative 50 degrees.
Yerevan, Armenia
Yerevan has a continental semi-arid cimate, with hot and dry summers
and cold snowy winters. Temperatures range from summer highs of 80
degrees and winter lows of 20 degrees.

Central Asia & Afghanistan


Kandahar, Afghanistan
Kandahar has a subtropical arid climate, characterized by little
precipitation and high variation between summer and winter
temperatures. Summers start in mid-may, last until late-september, and
are extremely dry. Temperatures range from summer highs of 110
degrees and winter lows of 65 degrees.
Yakutsk, Yakutia
With an extreme subarctic climate, Yakutsk has the coldest winter
temperatures for any city. Temperatures range from summer highs of 62
degrees and winter lows of negative 35 degrees.

The Middle East & North Africa


Kuwait, Kuwait City
Kuwait city has a hot desert climate and is one of the hottest cities in
summer on earth. Its winters are warm and very little rainfall. Sand storms

are quite frequent in mid-year. Temperatures range from summer highs of


125 degrees and winter lows of 75 degrees.
Cairo, Egypt
In Cairo, and along the Nile River Valley, the climate is a hot desert
climate, but often with high humidity due to the river valleys effects. Wind
storms can be frequent. Temperatures range from summer highs of 120
degrees and winter lows of 86 degrees.

Africa
Windhoek, Nambia
Windhoek is located in a semi-arid region of Nambia. The average annual
temperature is 65 degrees, which is mainly due to the prevalence of a
warm northerly airflow and the mountains to the south, which shelter the
city from cold southerly winds.
Cape Town, South Africa
Cape Town South Africa has a Warm summer Mediterranean Climate,
similar to Los Angeles, with mild, moderately wet winters and dry, warm
summers. Winters average 60 degrees while summers are about 75
degrees.
South Asia
Mount Everest, Nepal
Mount Everest has a highland Subtropical climate, with a temperature
range of -2 degrees in the summer to an average of -30 degrees in the
winter, but can drop as low as -70 degrees due to storms. The peak of
Everest is so high that it reaches the lower limit of the Jet Stream.
Precipitation falls as snow during the summer monsoon.
Colombo, Sri Lanka
Colombo features a tropical monsoon climate with an average
temperature year round of 80 degrees. Major changes in weather occur
during the monsoon seasons from May to August and October to January
reaching an annual rainfall of 94 inches, concentrated in three months of
the year.
East Asia
The Pamir Mountain Range
The climate of the Pamirs is arid and continental, meaning it is a relatively
dry climate with frigid winters and warm, relatively dry summers. Snowfall
is substantial, with a growing season of 200 days and 4 feet of snow.
Temperatures range from summer highs of 75 degrees and winter lows of
-10 degrees.
Taipei, Taiwan
Taipei has a monsoon influenced humid subtropical climate. Summers
are long , hot and humid, while winters are short and generally warm.
Annual rainfall on average is 95 inches.

Southeast Asia
Keng Noi, Vientiane, Laos
Our next trip will take us to Keng Noi, Laos where the climate is
characterized as tropical. A region of this nature can anticipate much
rainfall and year-round, hot to cool temperatures. During the winter the
temperature averages 48 degrees and the summer averages of 82
degrees.

Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific Islands


Laundi, Papua New Guinea
Next, we visit Kaiapit, Papua New Guinea which rests just below the
equator and experiences a wet tropical climate. Here the average year
round temperatures vary by just a few degrees with lows in the winter
months of 80 degrees and averages in the summer of 86 degrees.
The Outback, Australia
Although regions in Pacific Islands & Australia have a tendency toward
tropical climate, Australia is home to one of the most famous deserted
wastelands in the world. We end our trip here, in the dry Australian
outback where the average winter temperatures are 66 and the average
summer temperatures are 82 degrees.
