Summative Assignments
ESL 5
October 5, 2014

Summative assessments are typically used to evaluate the effectiveness of

instructional programs and services at the end of an academic year or at a predetermined time. I have observed the following in my observations:
1. PSSA I have seen PSSAs being administered to ESL students. There are special
adaptations for levels 1 and 2 when taking the PSSAs like reading the instructions
in Spanish.
2. WIDA I had an opportunity to observe the ESL teacher administer the WIDA
test to kindergarten ELLs. It was interesting to watch students, answer the
questions on the test. For some students, it was very stressful and foe some
students, it was easy and enjoyable.
3. Benchmark I also have observed benchmark tests given to all students but
accommodations were given to ELLs including more time to complete the
benchmark.
