Worked on three projects: exploring and advising on sustainability indicators for
Curitiba; lecturing and researching on applying climate action planning to Brasilian
cities; and researching sustainable land protection mechanisms, policies and

As member of a new branch, Sustainable Environments, researched the linkages
between land use and environmental issues, especially in the areas of sprawl/

Sustainable Urban Engineering (M. Suidan and J. Uber, co-PIs), proposal


accepted for funding and support by the new Dean of Engineering for the next
three years. I am the chair of one of the five topic groups Urban
Infrastructure and Sustainable Metropolitan Development. I facilitated
meetings to develop the focus of the group, wrote the report, and gave the
presentation of the topic. This topic was adopted by the co-PIs as a primary
focus of the new interdisciplinary research agenda. I will be involved in the
development of this area and the research agenda with the objective of being
involved in a major NSF proposal submission in collaboration with Engineering
in two or three years.
