Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Its a time to
spend with people I love, and to be extra grateful for
what we have. It is also the most delicious day of the
year. These are my favorite foods on the table.

Bonus Prompt 1:

BONUS PROMPT

[IMAGINE] [DESIGN] [INVENT] [CREATE] [PROTOTYPE] [INNOVATE] [WHY MAKE ART?]

Design an object that would really help people. You are to create drawing of a
prototype (a first draft or model) for an object. This object must have a clear purpose,
and it must help people. It may be practical, wacky, or both. Art objects and inventions
can help people live more happy lives, use energy more efficiently, make our
environment more safe to live in, save the lives of animal and plant species, make us
wonder, and remind us of what is really important.
Who needs help? What is going on with them, and what would help them most? Our planet? Our
animals? Our humans? People living in cities, suburbs or in rural areas? What would help kids like you?
Teenagers? Adults? Here in Riverside, or far away in another country? With a prototype you can try
anything, and change your mind about the details later. Your imagination, thinking, and ideas are
important. You never know until you try
Here are a few examples to get you going:
- - - - Wylands Whaling Walls are murals painted on public buildings as a gentle reminder about the
wonder and majesty of life in the oceans. His art inspires people to be stewards for our environment.
- - - - Ann Makosinski invented a flashlight that is powered by body heat. It lights up when you touch it.
- - - - Janet Echelman designs huge fiber sculptures to help people feel more at peace in cities where
nature is hard to see.
- - - - European designers have created solar powered bike paths that can make electricity for people.
Now there is even a bike path that comes alive at night to look like Van Goghs Starry Night, made in the
town he used to live in...!
- - - - Here in the USA people around the country are turning plastic shopping bags into a a sleeping mat
that can help the homeless by crocheting and watching youtube videos.

*How many prototypes can you design in your art journal? As many as you want.

*SUPER DUPER BONUS: Make an actual prototype of the physical object you designed in

your art journal. Choose the one you are most excited about, or the one you feel could change the world.
A prototype doesnt need to be perfect, its a first draft. Submitted objects will be displayed at school. You
will need to provide supporting materials to help others understand what you made, who you have made
NE
it for, and how it will help people. These could be drawn diagrams, written paragraphs, poems, a poster-MEO G

S
Have fun! Prototypes are due in your normal art class the week of January 12th, 2015.
