THE RESPIRATORY

SYSTEM

Did you ever wonder how many times

you breathe daily!!!

Before we answer this lets first get to meet a

friend of ours that we dont pay attention to it a
lot because its quiet but its a hard worker, this
friend of ours is the Respiratory system

The respiratory system

It consists of many organs including:

The trachea, the 2 lungs & the diaphragm.

These organs of the respiratory system help

to provide your body with oxygen.

They also help your body to get rid of carbon

dioxide.

Your lungs
-Your lungs are of the biggest
organs in your body.
-You have 2 lungs located in
your chest.
-Your left lung is slightly
smaller than your right lung
to leave enough space for
your heart .
-Your lungs are like a
spongetheir size
increases when you breathe

How does the air enter your

lungs!!

Your
trachea is
the
answer

Your trachea or the wind pipe

-Your

trachea is a tube that

passes the air you breathe
in from your nose & our
mouth to our lungs.
This tube also passes the
air you breathe out from
your lungs to the outside of
your body through your
nose & mouth.

The Diaphragm
-Its a respiratory muscle located underneath
your lungs.
-Its a dome-shaped muscle that helps your lungs
to breathe in & out.

So how we breathe !!!

Take a deep breathnow youre breathing in

or lets call to inhale .

When you inhale, the oxygen in the air passes

from:
Nose & mouth trachea lungs
blood

The diaphragm contracts ( flattens) & your

rib cage rises so your chest expands ( gets

when you inhale

The Air with oxygen moves like this:

Nose & mouth Trachea lungs
OXYGENTAED BLOOD CELLS

Diaphragm contracts.
Rib cage rises.
the size of your lungs & your chest increase.

How about when you exhale

To Exhale means to breathe out.

The opposite to breathing In happens.

The diaphragm relaxes ( comes up) & the ribs

come up so the size of your chest decrease to
force the air with carbondioxide to leave your
lungs.

When you Exhale..

The deoxygenated blood ( with CO2) releases

its CO2 into the lungs
This is how the carbondioxide moves:

CELLS Deoxygenated blood lungs

Trachea Nose & Mouth Out of your body.

Diaphragm relaxes.
Rib cage go down .
The size of your lungs & your chest gets
smaller.

Is it important weather you breathe

through our nose or mouth !!!

Yessss..breathing through your nose is

better because our nose have tiny hairs that
filter the air you breathe in from any dirts or
germs.

Keeping your respiratory system

healthy:

Dont smoke.
Keep green plants around.
Eat healthy food.
Exercise.
