Specific Topic: Cuban Missile Crisis

Competence:
Understands and recognizes the Cold War's Cuban missile crisis in all contexts by creating a mind map of the
world leaders involved in the event, their role and how the crisis was resolved.
Rationale:
World peace is hard to keep and students should realize that world leaders have a responsibility together
with society to maintain peace and order.

a.

Warm-up
Teacher loads into the computer one of the following web pages and students solve together any of
the following flash educational games.

b. Teaching procedures
Presentation:
1. Teacher asks if anyone knows what is a world war.
2. Teacher explains what a world war is and the consequences.
3. Teacher plays the video: Cuban missile crisis. Students are instructed to pay close attention to the
video as a questionnaire will be answered afterwards.

Controlled practice:
1. Students use their tablet to answer the online questionnaire in testmoz.com

Semi controlled practice:


1. Students gather into groups of four.
2. Teacher hands over worksheet with one question that they should research the information using
their tablets.
3. Students answer the question by discussion. The answer must not exceed 8 lines of text.
4. Students present their question and answer in front of the class.

Free practice:
1. Teacher shows a presentation about the world leaders involved in the Cuban missile crisis.
2. Students use their tablets to create a mind map about: The world leaders involved in the Cuban
missile crisis and what was their role. Using the bubble.us website.
3. Students share and explain their mind maps.

Closure:
1. Teacher shows the video: Duck and Cover.
2. Teacher explains that the video was used to help people keep calm making them believe that by
doing that the nuclear bomb may not hurt them.
