Course Title: Science

Grade: 9th

Unit: 2

Specific Topic: Nutrition and balanced diet

Competence: Knows and explains the importance of the different nutrients for the body as vitamins,
proteins, calcium, etc. by preparing different food as part of a balanced diet.

Rationale: In todays world there are many diseases that comes from not having good habits of
nutrition and an unbalanced diet, it is very important that students know what kind of food is good
to take care of their health and their body.
Lesson Content: Kind of nutrients, balanced diet, food pyramid, diseases that someone can get for
not having good nutrition habits.

Instructional Procedures
a.

Warm-up: Each student would have the opportunity to choose any food they want to eat and the
teacher is going to take note what the student chose.
b. Teaching procedures:
Presentation: The teacher is going to explain the main topic which is nutrition, nutrients, vitamins, and
all of them, explain the food pyramid, also what happens whenever they do not pay attention to what
food they eat and the consequences of having bad nutrition habits as diseases.
Controlled practice: Each students will have to join the word with the correct meaning about some
concepts of nutrition.
Semi controlled practice: The students are going to complete a chart that contains some information
about the food pyramid. Then the teacher is going to ask some questions about how many portions of
each group they consume in the week.
Free practice: The teacher is going to divide the class into three group. Each group will have to prepare
or design a meal. There will have 3 meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have to explain why they
chose each ingredient for the meal and also all the nutrients, vitamins, etc. each meal has.
c. Closure: Students are going to play Hot Potato, then some students are going to choose from the
board some questions and they have to answer.
d. Feedback: Information about how to have good health by eating some meals
e. Formative/ Summative check: Formative: Learn new vocabulary used in the class/ Summative check:
Draw a cartoon about nutrition and good nutrition habits.
f. Student Participation: Share opinion about what they think about obesity.

g. Homework: Complete a quiz, and research about other diseases for not having good nutrition habits.
