Introduction
Obesity continues to be one of America's most mentioned topics today, and this has
to be with the increased incidence of disease. Obese individuals, either young or old, are at
increased risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and osteoarthritis to name a few.
Unhealthy food choices and skipping exercise are important aspects that the people have to
keep in mind in order to improve their lifestyles. Many consumers are unaware of food
labels and basic nutrition principals, even of how foods are prepared outside of the home,
such as fast food restaurants that include cooking methods like using highly processed
foods, breading, deep-frying, and added fats for flavoring, which make the food high in fat,
saturated fat, sodium, and calories. These attributes are also compounded by the increased
portion sizes served. My purpose is to persuade the reader on how to overcome the
obstacles regarding to the issues of overweight.
Hydration is another essential aspect to consider, it means more than just
maintaining a good health. People need water for their everyday lives and for keeping the
body hydrate while exercising. This resource is the single largest nutrient in the body
making proper hydration of the utmost importance. Water is needed to regulate body
temperature, keep skin moist, and transport oxygen and essential nutrients to cells. Yet, our

Pecsi 2
bodies are also constantly losing water, as liquid from perspiration and urine, which must
be replaced to stay hydrated.
In an overall diet, while protein is critical in building muscle mass, more is not
necessarily better. Eating large amounts of lean protein will not equate with a toned body.
However, it is proved that a healthy diet to reduce weight must include protein
consumption for better results. Eating high-quality protein such as eggs, as an example, can
improve the results for reducing weight in a diet.
Getting enough rest is a key for weight loss as well. Just thinking about it, it is a
vicious cycle that a lack of sleep could lead to a sabotage of a persons health in ways such
as anxiety, which could lead to eating more food and skipping routine exercise. If one does
not gets good quality sleep, the metabolism wont function properly.

Tauber, Michelle, et al. "Gone Too Far? The Biggest Loser Controversy." People 81.8
(2014): 76. MasterFILE Premier. Web. 3 Nov. 2014.
This article discusses the weight loss of a contestant of the reality television game
show "The Biggest Loser", Rachel Frederickson. She responds to criticism and accusations
of having an eating disorder after the reveal of her significant weight loss on the television
show's final episode for the season of which she was named the winner, including the
surprised responses of trainers Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper. The author argues the
contestant did a hard work to lose weight and keep her physical wellness and she was being

monitored, while the participant asserts that she was impacted and feeling healthy with her
new transformation. This source is useful because it tells how exercise and a good diet can
maintain a person in good health, without excluding the proud of all the work done from
the beginning.

MAHONEY, SARAH. "Jump Start Your Weight Loss." Good Housekeeping 256.4 (2013):
38. MasterFILE Premier. Web. 3 Nov. 2014.
The article offers information on the five-day high-energy meal plan and weight
reduction tips from doctor Mehmet Oz. The topics discussed include the health benefits of
the plan, the significance of exercise in reducing and managing stress, and the advantage of
having enough sleep. Certain recipes of healthy food are given as well. I consider this
source very attractive and reliable because it is information given by a specialist or
professional in the field of health, wellness, and nutrition, meaning that it is highly credible.
The tips and advices given by the expert are recommended for the people who want to lose
weight and maintain their health at the same time. He also explains how certain organisms,
such as the thyroid in our systems work appropriately depending on the diet followed. It is
interesting when he points out that protein is very important for the diet besides satisfying
hunger. He even specifies that good rest is essential for any weight loss program. Making
varied exercises is significant in this case too, he says. The key is to make this kind of
program fun.

This article is interesting because it establishes and gives high quality explanation of
the importance of hydration for the human system by using different methods. It talks about
the diseases that dehydration could lead to, such as muscular weakness and even anorexia.
It uses comparative tables to show the clinical evidence of hydration in ill people,
arguments for and against hydration, to name a few. It is a credible source because the
arguments are stated medically and it is a thorough research or investigation. The review
reveals that these social, emotional, and clinical misperception aspects should be

care in life.

lives. It also gives recommendation of taking certain supplements as aids to sleep. I
consider very captivating the facts that it states about the ways of getting a good nights rest

good nights rest are very well described in the article.

Yaktine, Ann L, and Suzanne P Murphy. "Aligning Nutrition Assistance Programs With
The Dietary Guidelines For Americans." Nutrition Reviews 71.9 (2013): 622-630.
Academic Search Premier. Web. 3 Nov. 2014.
The article presents nutrition assistance programs for Americans, including the
Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), the
National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs (NSLP/ SBP), and the Child and
Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), which are intended to offer low-income families the
opportunity for a healthier food pattern that promotes overall health and reduces risk for
chronic diseases. It points out newly revised recommendations increase intakes of fruits,
vegetables, and whole-grain-rich foods while reducing consumption of saturated fats, added
sugars, and sodium to encourage diets that are more nutrient dense and thus are more likely
to meet nutrient intake goals without exceeding energy needs. In addition, it talks about the
importance of improving the nutritional profile of meals and snacks for NSLP and CACFP
and meal patterns for WIC, the new recommendations ensure variety within food groups for
menus across a week and allow for regional and cultural preferences and increased

Pecsi 6
flexibility of choice within food groups. Each of the reports presented in this review
includes program recommendations that will contribute to an overall dietary pattern that is
consistent with current DGA for WIC, NSLP/SBP, and CACFP participants. Although
none of these programs are intended to provide a full days intake of food, it is hoped that
the healthy foods provided by the programs will supply a model for foods consumed
throughout the day. It is a believable source because it is a thorough research and issues
good information established not only with written explanatory paragraphs but shows more
evidence on tables with interesting content related to this topic of nutrition.
Conclusion
Nowadays, most people consider that they need to lose weight in order to be
healthy. It is a fact that losing weight can be incredibly easy when the body is healthy. You
are what you eat. I would try to persuade the reader with the facts such as eating disorders
can bring and harm the persons lives and how this problem can be treated with a healthy
diet, an active life, and appropriate rest. From this research I had learned that it is not only
about eating right, but to follow a good structured exercise plan, drinking water, and having
enough sleep. Remember your health and your weight are connected, if your body mass
index falls into the range of overweight, you are at a higher risk for diseases. In final words,
good nutrition, a balanced plan of exercise, enough hydration, and well rest are the
foundations for vigorous health.
